Courses (dvd, etc) that teach heavy rock/metal song

Trying to steer my little brother in the right direction.
But does anyone know a course out there that is geared towards heavy metal songwriting. He knows how to play the basic chords but wants to learn how to write catchy riffs and learn to write melodies on top of the riffs. So any advice would be helpful

Most DVDs are for techniques more than songwriting. I'd just buy him a license for GuitarPro and have him download songs from bands he likes to analyze what's going on- it will probably be more instructive/engaging and relevant to him.

Some books/videos in metal songwriting that I remember seeing around are one from Troy Stetina I think, and one course by Eyal Levi in creativelive.com. I don't know if they're any good though.
