Cpt. Beefheart and His Magic Band

I don't know if many of you have heard of this band, but my dad was a big fan of his and I have thus been listening to their work for a very number of years.

Their music is quite weird and estranged but very artistic nonetheless, I was wondering if anyone else out there has heard of them?

Yes, I found Captain Beefheart through Frank Zappa. Just recently I watched the video "The Artist Formally Known As Captain Beefheart" which was very interesting. Presented by DJ John Peel it includes rare archive footage from 1964 through to his retirement from music in 1982. Among those interviewed are Frank Zappa, Ry Cooder, Matt Groening, Jimmy Carl Black and ex-members of Beefheart's Magic Band. It also includes a short film on Don van Vliet by Anton Corbajn.
