hi folks,
everytime i build up a mixing session and throw those
waves q4s, l2s, c1s and whatnot on i get cpu overload
which results in nasty noises. my buffer is at 384,
card is a audiophile 192/cpu a p4 3.6 - that normal ?
after rising the buffer the problem is gone in most cases.

Im on the same specs Trym... i have 2 GB of RAM as well, and only when i really have a HUGE ass project file full of waves plugins, synths, DFHS and lot's of MIDI stuff, it starts to overload and make that annoying clipping sound, but if you have just a couple of plugins on, it should not be like that.

Uhm, so yeah.. how much RAM is there?

now you mention it - tiny 1 gb.
thanks for the advice, will buy a extra gb.
made a list of my latest cpu killing session:

q4 x4
drumagog x2
rcomp
q2 x2
c1 x5
urs fulltec x3
q3 x1
roomworks x1
ozone x1
timeworks x1
l2 x1
ezdrummer x1
9 monotracks

even with buffer set to 768 the cpu load in nuendo goes up
to this darkblueish range-during playback that is.
still think its my RAM ?

I have my buffer set to 1024 if not more when editing and less when recording. hm.

+1, set it as high as you can when mixing and such. When tracking, I'll keep it down to as low as I can without playback problems.

I have to bounce/freeze quite a few things during a mix to get it finished. I always have my buffer at 1024 and still, I max out constantly. I've only got 768mb of ram though.. Need to upgrade!

Ez Drummer and the Fulltec are the biggest CPU whores I know of in that list. I used to run into all sorts of CPU shortages when using the Fulltec EQ on my old machine.

Your best option is to start freezing tracks, or bouncing down your drums to audio rather than running EZD in real-time. Increasing latency shouldn't hurt you too much when mixing either.
