Maybe i am blindly devoted to Maiden....but, err....what the hell is wrong with that artwork? I mean firstly, its the artwork on the "Edward the Great" Best Of CD which is targeted at a potential new Maiden audience, so perhaps its been made to look less ghastly to the wider population. Secondly, its a fine piece of artwork, of which i am sure most of you could not do any better ( i know i couldnt) and thirdly, while i could understand if it was the artwork for the new studio album which carries alot more importance than any "best of"....i though you listened to a band because you like their MUSIC, regardless of their artwork.

Maiden fans worldwide seem to be becoming bitchier and more petty as time goes by.

It's amateurish at best. I actually feel sorry for the guy who drew it.

The clothes look secondary - as if they're magnets stuck over the top. And why are they in pristine condition?
The wolves are stupid. Since when has Eddie needed scary animals to make him look tough?
The background seems blurry, and there's no differentiating between wall and floor.
Eddie's hands seem weird.
His gums are protruding.

I think it rocks myself. I like it better than Fear Of The Dark cover, Virtual XI cover, X Factor cover, maybe even Seventh Son and Brave New World covers.

Actually looking at a big one, the actual drawing of it is a little bit dodgy looking and amateurish but the picture is damn cool I think.

I can sort of see where you are coming from. But Eddie on a throne? Not really original.

Even though 'Edward The Great' is as cheesy a name as the come, the cover concept could have been cool.
Imagine Eddie leading the armies of hell to war.. in a great panaramic battle scene or something like that.

And why isn't Alexander The Great one of the tracks?

It looks like a painting someone did and they tacked Eddie's head on top of it.

And I know that I wouldn't be able to do a better painting, but I'm not the one calling myself an artist here.

You guys have raised some valid points, but I still stand by my comments. I guess we agree to disagree.

But at the end of the day, i ain't buying the disc because i have all those tracks. The official website has said in black & white it's aimed at new fans, but i just dont see any point in slagging it off.

Even though the boxed set of old live stuff & b-sides is cool, i will actually think twice about buying it, cos' no doubt it will be well over $200, and i only need so many live versions of the same songs. As a collector it would be cool, but ive never considered myself and over-the-top Maiden collector. I certainly rush out and buy their new studio albums on the day of release after months of sleepless nights waiting, but i think i could better spend $200 on something else.

It's advertised at various US sites for under US$70, so there's hope yet.

I quite look forward to the new archives set, and think its the coolest thing they have come up with in years, but this new best of is just gay. I can see potential in that artwork, if it was like a draft of something, but it is just crap. The idea is cool IMO, but the quality just looks shithouse. Worst art Maiden have put their name to yet.

Does anyone else remember the artwork on some promo cd that someone posted, where the cover was just a shelf, with all these different Eddie heads in jars. I though that was awesome, and much cooler for a best of than this shite.
