I'm looking for a Crate Excalibur 2200-H head, but from what I'm told, Crate discontinued the series. Is there anywhere I can look for it used other than local pawn shops and eBay?
Next question. I like to use solid state amps. I've heard the Excalibur 2200-H has a great sound for metal, but I can never find one. Which brings me to my question.. Crate makes another 220 Watt head, but it's not an Excalibur. It uses the Crate GX FlexWave tube simulating preamp. All the reviews I've seen for the 2200-H is for the Excalibur, so I'm a bit reluctant to buy the GX FlexWave model. Anyone have any experience with this series?
Also, what would be the best cab? I have my sights set on the Marshall 1960a, but is there a better cab for around the same price ($500 - $700)?
One last question.. My friend's JCM 2000 is only 100 watts and it's loud enough for a bar/club show. How would a 220 watt amp compare? If 90 watts is enough, I can find the Crate Excalibur 90 watt head pretty easy.
If anyone can help, thanks in advance!
