What causes this strange effect?
Here are a couple of tracks off of SMEGMACHRIST's record, "The Passion of the SMEGMACHRIST", which have this bizarre effect occur whenever a Ab power chord is inflicted upon your ears.

We recorded everything live, so in order to beef up the sound of the one guitar, we split the track a hair to give a slight stereo effect. But whenever the Ab5 chord was played, as apparent in "Halo" and in "Gaysians," (and happened to be the b5... metal \m/), the wave pattern must have somehow crossed into itself to create a mono sound. How bizarre... any ideas as to how or why?
