Is it posible to emulate guitar pickups?

i know its freak... but what about simulate Emg 81 with a plug in???

i'll record my guitar and pass the signal thru the plug in and.. voila instant emg 81 simil record

or maybe add this to the ampsim emulatin how the real head sounds kick it with that specific pick up?

Real:

A guitar with Emg 81 thru a mesa triple rectifier

PLug in
Lepou Pick up emulator thru Lecto

do you understand my point??

of course the same pick up doesn´t sounds the same in diferents guitars.. but maybe a wood type selector could make the trick...

i know is weird but... ten years ago lecto X50 and all was like magic to me

COuld this be done?

That Variax guitar >tries< to emulate various guitars and various pickups, so yes it is possible to emulate pickups, just not the way you wrote.

When you record a guitar, you already recorded strings vibrating near the magnet and a coil, so in order to make it sound like a string vibrating next to a different configuration of magnets, you would first have to remove the effect that your guitars pickups had on the sound.

But it would not be as simple as applying a reverse EQ curve to it.

download it...but imho it's not that good, I like their plugins, but this doesn't really work
for the reasons Mutant wrote, you could try to place an eq as the first plugin and try to
simulate the response a bit, but there's no way you can replicate another pickup like you
are able to replicate an amp or pedal.

You would have to remove the frequencies captured by your pickup, which can't be done, and placing an impulse of an emg in front of your (already recorded) guitar signal, you would essentially be picking up your pickup.

Which is dumb, fucking buy a set of emg pickups.

Goddamn it, I said pickup too many times, now IT HAS NO MEANING.

Theoretically, you could do it if you had your guitar loaded with the original pickup, played a riff through DI, then replaced the pickup with the EMG, same set of strings, etc and played the same thing again, then match EQ'd it. It'd probably end up being more trouble than its worth, though.

Just buy a set of EMGs if that's the sound you want. They're only like $100 on the used market...

Got my 81 for 95 bucks new. Used I'd guess they'd run from 60-100 depending on who the seller is.

There's a plugin called Activizer II, which is meant to emulate EMG 81 and a few others (I forget which) DL link > Here and the forum I found it http://forum.guitarplayer.ru/index.php?topic=184906.30 (it's all in Russian though) and I got here from one of the last posts on this topic http://www.guitarampmodeling.com/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=3352 It doesn't do much for me, I agree with the others, just get an 81 in your guitar.

Hey man!! tnks a lot!!!

i like my pickups .. i only thoug it could be colll i dindt know that it have been already done!

There is one key missing here and that is the interaction between your amp and your pickup which will in turn impact how you play...even if it is a tiny impact.

I'm pretty sure someone out there will create a plugin that will model the frequency response of a pickup, but it seems kinda pointless. Antares used to make something similar for modeling different microphones and it wasn't much more than an EQ with a bunch of presets. That isn't to say that it isn't useful, but if it was that great wouldn't we all just own a bunch of *insert cheap microphone* and use the plugin to model the good stuff?
