Here is a re-issue of The Grand Torturers Of Hell which was originally released in 2001 on cassette limited to 666 copies. How utterly cliche yet completely black metal of them! Frankly, it's a surprise they didn't wait until June 6th to release this re-issue, for that is the essence of Cult of Daath - a group that slips into the crowd as just another kvlt black metal group. The coolest thing about this re-issue is the new album art which is in gloriously blasphemous color... however, as you may have guessed, the original artwork for The Grand Torturers of Hell was indeed amature black and white. Why would they consider re-releasing such a generic work of black metal? Also, it is as short as an EP clocking in at around 29 minutes...

One would think a full-length with a length of 29 minutes and eight total tracks would have to have a pretty quick tempo.. Well one would think wrong. The music keeps a single general tempo throughout the majority of The Grand Torturers of Hell. Use of blastbeats during much of the riffing creates an illusion of speed, however one can see right through the illusion... or hear through it? There are also problems with the production that should not be present for a re-issue, like the vocals all being panned into the left speaker... The vocals are thoroughly coated with reverb and can cause a hefty distortion in your speakers as well. Perhaps the music was not remastered, however, and simply recorded from cassette and released on CD. Either way, Cult of Daath has successfully released a good black metal record, however it is only good by general black metal standards. It fits in with all the other bland and unexciting releases that sound way too similar to each other.
