The UK's finest metal event, DAMNATION FESTIVAL, will return to Leeds this October following the sold-out success of last year's showcase.

The festival - voted the 'Best Event of 2008' in Britain by readers of Terrorizer Magazine - will be hosted at Leeds University Union, on Saturday, October 24.

And with a longer day planned, more bands and fewer clashes between the three stages it promises to be the biggest and most exciting edition yet.

Festival Director Gavin McInally said: "Each year we've strengthened the event and improved the line-up and the fans have supported us from our daunting first year at Jilly's in Manchester to a sold out 3,500 capacity day of metal mayhem in Leeds which witnessed the triumphant return of Carcass in November.

"To try to re-pay that support, this year doors will open from 1pm which will allow more bands across our three diverse stages and where we can, we will avoid clashes to allow fans to get the most out of the day.

"As always the tickets will be kept to a bare minimum cost although there will be no expense spared in dragging the best in death, thrash, grind, black, doom, experimental and straight-up heavy rock and metal from across the globe to take the stage at Damnation."

"With an exciting UK comeback show, death metal favourites, post-rock genius and a heavy dose of rock action already on the cards, it's going to be quite a line-up."

Damnation Festival - which is proudly sponsored by Jagermeister, Terrorizer and Rock Sound magazine - will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at Leeds University Union.

Tickets will be available from all usual outlets including See, Ticketline and Leeds Tickets.

Vader n Repulsion headlining. I can put any bet on it that Bolt Thrower arent playing. Itd be nice though.

Vader and Repulsion are headlining Deathfest already.

They tried to get Bolt Thrower for Deathfest but they couldn't attend. Damnation would be perfect for them.

Northern Irish trio THERAPY? kick-start the line-up for Damnation Festival with a heavy dose of alternative rock.

And they'll be joined by Greek black metallers ROTTING CHRIST - who will appear exclusively at the Leeds-based event - and Josh Graham's doom laden post-metal purveyors A STORM OF LIGHT.

It's an exciting treble coup for UK's finest metal event but only the start of what will be the festival's biggest and most diverse line-up to date.

Festival director Gavin McInally said: "It's a real honour to have Therapy? perform at Damnation Festival, especially in a busy year for band following the release of the excellent Crooked Timber.

"Fans have been demanding Therapy? for a while now and we're delighted to finally be able to oblige with a slot on the Jagermeister Stage.

"Rotting Christ are another fans' favourite and they've been kind enough to agree to a break from the studio this October to fly over to devastate our Terrorizer Stage.

"And following the massive success of our Rock Sound Stage last year, A Storm of Light are the first band announced to push the aural envelope with their eclectic post-metal rumblings."

Damnation Festival 2009 will take place on Saturday, October 24 at Leeds University Union, across three stages with doors opening at the earlier time of 1pm through until 3am.

Details of tickets will be announced soon.

MISTRESS - the UK's finest purveyors of flithy noise - will reunite for one last aural assault, exclusively at DAMNATION FESTIVAL.

The Birmingham bastards will treat fans a final dose their sludgey mix of grind and thrash following their sudden break-up in March last year.

The show will be the first time Mistress have (dis)graced Damnation since 2006 when they levelled the Terrorizer Stage - leading to fans repeatedly demanding their return - and the last time they'll perform anywhere.

And frontman Dave Hunt is planning to make it one for the history books.
He said: "Well, we saw what happened with Carcass and we thought we'd cash in too!

"Nah, in reality it's just that we never had a 'last gig' and that left a sense of unfinished business. Our paragraph in the book of heavy metal should have ended with an exclamation mark, not a comma.

"The Damnation guys suggested a one-off and we thought fuck it, we'll have our final stand after all. The last grinding hurrah of blood, snot and spleen."

Mistress will join previously announced acts; THERAPY?, ROTTING CHRIST and A STORM OF LIGHT at the three stage event which will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at Leeds University Union.

Northern Irish post-metallers STAND-UP GUY have also been added to the bill, playing the Rock Sound endorsed stage.

Tickets for the fifth annual DAMNATION FESTIVAL are now on sale… at last year’s price.

Despite an earlier opening time of 1pm, more bands across all three stages and a stronger bill of diverse rock and metal talent, briefs will be kept to £29.50, and a fewer number will be available than last year’s 3,500 capacity sell-out to help ease congestion in the Leeds University Union.

And if that wasn’t enough good news, English grindcore punks EXTREME NOISE TERROR, Texan post-rock masters THIS WILL DESTROY YOU and Chicago psychedelic metallers MINSK, are the latest additions to the bill which already boasts; Therapy? an exclusive Rotting Christ appearance, A Storm of Light and Stand-Up Guy, not to mention the comeback and final farewell of Mistress – with ALL headliners still to be announced.

Festival director Gavin McInally said: "Despite every effort being made to improve the festival - more bands, less clashes, earlier doors – we were determined to keep the ticket prices as low as last year.

“There will also be fewer tickets on general sale this year which – with careful billing and much better signage to the stages – should ease the congestion around the building.

“We were voted the UK’s best metal event by the fans that turned out in the numbers last year but they can be assured we’ll do everything in our power to continue to make the event even better.

“Extreme Noise Terror were built for these kind of shows and our only hope is that our Terrorizer Stage is sturdy enough to host them, while This Will Destroy You and Minsk are sterling additions to the majestic Rock Sound Stage.”

Damnation Festival will take place at Leeds University Union, on Saturday, October 24, 2009. Tickets are available now from http://www.leedstickets.com/ , http://www.ticketline.co.uk/ and http://www.seetickets.co.uk/
Tickets are also on sale in Leeds at stores including Crash and Jumbo.
