Dangit!

Ehh, what can you expect with a band like Iced Earth? They're basically what I'd define as being a sell-out band ... if The Glorious Burden isn't a gimmick to rake in some extra cash then I don't know what is.

They should have separate tickets for those who only want to see Iced earth and for those who only want to see Evergrey. Then they can make the evergrey fans leave after their set and have the iced earth fans show up an hour later. heh heh...

What the hell? IE is the last band in the world to sell out! That just goes to show how little you know about the band.

How the hell is The Glorious Burden a gimmick??? Is it so wrong to write about something you love, which in this case happens to be history. Maiden have done it countless times, I don't see anyone calling them sell-outs.

Come on guys, give me a break here. We all know that throwing red, white and blue on an album cover is a good way to sell some records. Everyday I am force-fed this "American pride" crap by bumper stickers, shirts, attitudes and comments by people ... it's ridiculous. Iced Earth jumped on the band-wagon knowing people would eat this up since we have this big "American pride" high going on here in the USA right now. It was a smart business move but I also feel it was a total gimmick to rake in some extra cash from morons that'll go nuts over this "American" record. I've never fallen for Jon Scaffer's big never sell-out attitude as I think he is full of it.

To be honest, lots of the anti-Americanism that's thrown at The Glorious Burden is often misplaced. Where The Eagle Cries is pretty much the only patriotic song, the rest are more like stories of historic battles or persons. Not to mention that a few of the songs deal with European history.

That doesn't stop The Glorious Burden from mostly sucking though. Tim's vocals are the highlight of it...the music is too much like the previous 2 IE albums.

That is a true statement TheFourthHorseman. I've heard the album and read the lyrics and When The Eagle Cries is the only real patriotic song. However, the cover is a total giveway, in my mind, that Jon is after money. I mean, the whole album is not about the Cival War ... only one song. Why throw on a cover based on one song? To me a cover should summarize the album, not just pick-out one song.

That's true too, but Gettysburg 1863 is the song(s) that Jon worked the most with...
I don't think most people will buy the album based on the cover.

Well, thats just stupid. Who the hell puts a picture of an army going to war to sell records? And, who is stupid enough to by the record just because of that? I mean, if he turns it over, he can see songs like Attila and Waterloo - and it just doesn't get any more American that that, does it?

And, it would be completly stupid to use it as a marketing strategy, because despite what you might think, there is more to the world than just USA. Namely, Europe - where IE has quite a few fans. If it is some gimmick, why didn't they have a seperate cover for Europe, where most of IE's record buyers are from?

The reason that cover picture was picked, was because the highlight of the album was the 32 min. piece called Gettysburg 1863. Just like on the Something Wicked album, on the cover you can see the Watcher (the character that Schaffer created), even though only the last 3 songs are about that storyline.

However, I won't argue with you about the quality of the album, since I find it their worst.

Actually, I had the chance to buy Glorious Burden before I bought Horror Show, but I got Horror Show, that shows that I didn't go off of the cover. I actually didn't care what the cover looked like, I heard the Cd was good from a friend, that's why I bought it. That is not a selling out, if you read why they made the album, he said it is because he loves History, U.S. History is his favorite, that's why the cover is like that.

Another thing, is Jon has wanted to make a History Cd for awhile. Think back to "Something Wicked" with the song "1776". That CD was made in 1998 WAY before 9/11, Iraqi Freedom, etc. He wanted to do it then, but it would not fit in with the other material.

They aren't a sell out band, that's just what he loves. What else could go on the cover anyway, think of a way to put all of those different topics in one cover. They just went with what Jon loves to read about. Also, that is what is on the cover in Europe like he said above^. That is true about Europe being their prime buyers. IE, is not THAT popular in the US, where they will make money off of a Cd for having an American flag on it. US is actually their weaker point of buyers out of Europe and US. So, why wouldnt they put some European flags or events on it? Maybe, it is because THEY AREN'T A SELL OUT BAND.

Also, I don't think Metallica sold out. The reason they sued(think that's how its spelled) Napster is because someone got ahold of a new album and put it out way before it was going to be released. One of my friends who likes rap, got the Slim Shady Show(Eminem) Cd before it came out by a peer 2 peer network. I would be pissed too.

Well, you guys are probably right. However, my disliking for Iced Earth is so strong that I cannot stand anything they do! I will admit that your statements have a lot more logic than mine ... mine are pretty much totally fuled by my negative, biased opinion about a band I hate. Sorry guys!
