Daniel leaves Anathema

Hmm... some months ago I read a pretty weird interview with Danny about drug addiction and problems with Vinnie. After the event I'd say that was a foreboding.

Our songs are going to be very good, and alot closer to the true Anathema of Alternative 4, Eternity and songs like Temporary Peace...

:err:
I should be happy to read that since I love those outputs (in contrast to "AFDTE"), but it sounds hypocritical to call some of the earlier stuff "true" all of a sudden. I recall quite a few statements which pulled "old" Anathema albums (anything before Judgement) to pieces. Moreover, after Duncan's departure the Cavanagh brothers stated that they enjoy their freshly acquired "musical freedom", and now Danny feels too much "pressure"?!
Aaah whatever... :bah:

That's very sad to hear but like Danny said they have become a total different band and so it's ok i think. This way we can remember him better while listening to the old albums.
I only hope that this won't happen to Katatonia since i think that they too will change in the future, i am not trying to predict anything but who knows?
As long as the feeling stays real and the music comes from the heart they will go on i think, i hope so.

I wrote a splendid reply to this in the Anathema forum ;), but having thought about it a bit more, I'm glad this has happened, as I didn't like the direction Anathema were going, and now 2 of the best songwriters in the business are back togther.

Odd, I said when I first heard AFDTE that it would be the last Anathema album I listened to. While my stance has softened slightly, looks like I was right anyway.....

tsk tsk yourdeadgroom!!

I'm actually pretty amazed that Danny is working with Duncan again, because I thought the reason Duncan left was because of Danny!! Anyway, the music is going to be amazing... although I don't know about female vocals. Somehow I can't connect as directly to the music when it's a female voice.

It's terrible I say this, but hopefully the rest of Anathema will call it a day as well. 'A Fine Day to Exit' is a masterpiece and would be a very fitting 'exit'.

Remarkable news...

Well, has anyone here heard Antimatter, Duncan's band that Danny joined???

It doesn't sound like 'true anathema' at all, like Danny somewhere said. It sounds like Portishead, and a little bit too much I'd say.

It's good music, but has nothing new to offer......but maybe Daniel will make it better.

That's a bit worrying! Hopefully Danny will inject some coolness like you suggested.

It's a chick though, right?

There are two female vocalists, and 1 male (Duncan, I suppose), on the Saviour album. Actually the album is great, so go and buy it :)

You shouldn't worry about it. it's a cool band already, and I'm sure Danny will make it even cooler.

I downloaded "Psalms" from the official Antimatter homepage and really liked it. Those of you who enjoy music in the vein of Portishead and trip-hop in general should definately check 'em out. Does anybody have an idea where one could order their last CD?

yourdeadgroom, your link didnt work for me... but if its the same thing i've heard, apparently danny's thinking of rejoining and trying to bring duncan with him? ummm... okay, thats cool :) a little weird, but cool... also, i just noticed that the anathema homepage doesnt seem to have up the news item about danny leaving anymore, altho i didn't look very hard... well, if it works out, that's good... kind of a strange situation, i agree... but hey, whatever floats their boat

Hopefully, if he is back, and he really meant the comments he made about the last album, and what he regards as 'true' Anathema, it will lead to a move back towards the Eternity/A4 style.

YDG, living in an eternal dreamworld, but still hopefull.....
