Old Theatre of Tragedy is some of my favorite Doom/Death. It's the beauty and the beast kind so either you like it or not and in terms of doom/death/gothic and in a sense of doom-metal consider the first two classic gems and mandatory.

Old Theatre of Tragedy produced some of the earliest and most innovative Death/Doom you can find.

The Gathering -Always never gets mentioned and is one of the finest Doom/Death albums period. I'd like to track down the original.

The Mirror Waters and In Sickness & Health are some of the best Doom/Death songs.

My Dying Bride(as the flower withers,trinity comp) pure Doom/Death before the band introduced clean vocals.

I wouldent rule out the albums with clean vocals as well; still some great Death/Doom to be had on those.

It's to bad Anathema does not play Doom/Death anymore and they should have re-recorded the entire An Iliad of Woes 90 demo.

Agreed. I like pretty much everything they've recorded and even the pure clean vocal albums like Like Gods of The Sun which is one of their best regardless being pure Doom Metal.

Orphanage `Oblivion and By Time Alone need to be reissued(amazing and underlooked albums to me anyways). I've never come across anyone else who enjoys them and just think they were an awesome band.
