Deathwitch - Violence Blasphemy Sodomy
Runemagick front man (And one time Sacramentum drummer) Terror (Guitar and vocals) is something of an underground figure with his group Deathwitch. Since 1994, Terror has maintained a, what at times seems disjointed, grip on primitive death metal under the moniker of Deathwitch, with ‘Violence Blasphemy Sodomy’ being the bands latest and sixth release to date (Following on from 2002’s ‘Deathfuck Rituals’).
The line up has once again changed, with guitarist Slade Doom and drummer Dan Slaughter fulfilling Terror’s vision of pure Armageddon. As the accompanying press release states, Deathwitch don’t give a fuck what you think. And while the sentiment is noble in itself, it’s probably a good think they don’t care.
Deathwitch is as primitive as death metal can get, while maintaining a groove and catchiness throughout the fourteen tracks on offer. From the relentless drumming in ‘Witch Of Death’ and ‘Violence Blasphemy’, or the great solo work in ‘Abhorrent Sadistic Tormentor’ and ‘Bitchfinder’, Deathwitch do offer something quite different to most out there on the death metal front lines.
The production holds some clarity, which allows the all three members to be clearly heard while maintaining a heavy traditional black metal sound without resorting to a bad recording or necro-sound.
The only real problem about the whole album is that around three quarters of the way through the album, it does get a little tiring. Sure, some of the lyrical content does provide the odd laugh (Was that intentional?), but in order for these album to truly work, they need to be kept to a minimum so that the listener is always wanting more rather that hearing too much and getting bored.
Deathwitch are great at what they do, and if primitive (The key word to use when describing Deathwitch) black metal is what you’re after, then ‘Violence Blasphemy Sodomy’ is going to suit you.

Kerrang (Australia)

Read the title, know the album. At a time when every second band is striving to be the next Slayer or trying desperately to reinvent the black metal wheel, it's refreshing to hear a band such as Deathwitch, whose "fuck you" attitude results in some of the most volatile death metal currently being produced. XXX is as savage and raw as the genre gets - it's violently simple, but that's part of the appeal.
That said, this album won't change the world. It's nothing new, and it's not unfair to question whether or not Violence Blasphemy Sodomy would make an essential addition to an already crowded extreme metal collection. But this wipes the floor with the new Morbid Angel, and that's gotta count for something.

"Deathwitch return with the very primitive Violence Blasphemy Sodomy. Violence Blasphemy Sodomy is Thrash/DeathMetal the way it should be played, cold, raw, aggressive, un-relentless and dripping with blood. It’s the sort of record that if your parents heard it, they would be seriously worried for your state of mind and send you to a shrink! Note to all Vampires out there, Deathwitch are going to nail you to wall with their track Blood Sucking Fuck, along with Total Morbid, Nercosodomizer, Worthless Scum and Fuckoff And Die, leave you no doubt that Deathwitch just don’t give a fuck. The question is do you? Deathwitch are spreading the ancient philosophy of ‘The Who Gives A Fuck Society’ (I’m a card holding member since ’88) some might fine Violence Blasphemy Sodomy a bit adolescent and I’d have to agree to an extent. But I just don’t give a fuck and neither do Deathwitch." - 4-5
