DEEP PURPLE!!!!!

Holy smokes were Purple amazing last night.
This was my first time seeing them and I am very glad I finally chose not to pass on them this time around.

The venue itself was only so so. Festival Park is basically an open field across the street from the casino where they set up a stage and placed down chairs. Therefore, the lawn was the same level as the main seating area (IE - No incline). The stage set up tho was really nice, and the sound was really good.

The Orchestra opened, who are members of ELO and ELO II. Aside from Evil Woman and Do Ya (which I primarily know because Ace Freely covered it), the rest of their stuff is light 70s rock. People really seemed into them, and actually the majority of the crowd seemed to know their material better than DP.

DP went on around 8:15 and played til 10. I really liked the setlist. Each member throughout the night got to do some sort of solo. It was awesome to see these guys live. I realize that I had never seen any of these guys live in any of the bands they had been in , tho I have been a fan of their other work for years.

Highway Star
Into the Fire
Hard Lovin' Man
Strange Kind of Woman
Vincent Price
Contact Lost
Uncommon Man
The Well-Dressed Guitar
The Mule
Lazy
Hell to Pay
Keyboard Solo
Perfect Strangers
Space Truckin'
Smoke on the Water
Encore:
Hush
(Billy Joe Royal cover)
Black Night

To my knowledge, Gillan has never performed any Coverdale material live, tho I could be wrong.

Were you really expecting them to perform anything off of Burn?

To each their own. I was very content with this setlist.

I am glad I passed. Terrible set list IMO mostly because Burn is my favorite album and it is ignored. However, I understand why. My vision of Deep Purple live will remain California Jam 1974.

Okay MR. Cranky Pants. Considering the depth of material DP has over their career, I think it would be tough for them to do a terrible set list. They were great when I saw them at the Ravinia. My only issue is when Gillan tries to do Highway Star because he shouldn't try to get up that high anymore, because, frankly, he can't do it.

They need to get Glenn Hughes back in the band.

It would be great if Coverdale and Hughes would do their own version.
I have read that both have publically stated they would be up for doing a Mark III reunion if Blackmore would do it, tho we know that isnt ever going to happen.

Whitesnake sometimes does Burn live.

Just sometimes hard to get passed Coverdale's facelift!! :)
