So I gather alot of people on here love deftones, and I recently found copies of adrenaline and Around the fur in my dad's cd collection.... Gotta say they're both pretty awesome, especially production wise.

So I was essentially wondering.... could anybody point me in the direction of their more essential stuff? :D

Its more essential NOT to listen to deftones, because deftones are bad.

woah! i love saturday night wrist!

it was a huge 'sound' transition for them and a major change in production control, where they really took the reins after dropping Date and working with Ezrin.

i think the tension and stress really shines through this record. i feel like they have always painted a picture with their music and s.n.w. absolutely showed a very painful stage in their careers. it was "make-or-break" but ultimately pulled them OUT of the nu-metal genre and into a pioneering sound that showed a lot of their major influences, unlike any other band.

in short... i am a HUGE deftones fan and as vague as some of the lyrics are, i feel like they have been extremely transparent in their storytelling. also, this record was received pretty well, publicly and i think stirred a whole new fan base for them. not to mention, the team sleep shit chino was working on at the same time was incredible and was a huge influence on the the s.n.w. record as a whole.

i love who the deftones have become and i know for a fact saturday night wrist as a lot to do with it.

Top 3 albums : Around the fur, Diamond Eyes, Adrenaline. The thing about deftones is that every album is different, different songs and different albums hit different spots, if you are angry you might want to listen to something more aggressive, if you are chillen on a cold night you may want to hear something different. If you want something more commerical/radio listen to White Pony, I'm not a big fan of that album but a lot of people tend to like it. It really depends on you, I have a few friends who really like Swerve City on the new album but personally I can't stand it. So basically, listen to as much as you can by them, even the songs on the same album can differ dramatically from another song.

Thanks for these! after listening to minus blindfold, back to school and diamond eyes (song, not album) back to back I definitely see what you mean about differentiating between albums :)

The self-titled was my favorite, although Diamond Eyes and the new one may have surpassed it. Also like Tim said, that Team Sleep album rules, you should check it out!

This is the kind of band that has such a great drummer that the vocalist can sing off pitch and guitarist can use whatever modeler he can find and it still sounds effin' awesome. :D

Nah.. the production is so amazing. White Pony goes without saying, that's my favorite snare sound. Also the newest album had unbelievable production!!
