I was listening and enjoying Deliverance (damn good album - so raw and
uncensored) when I started thinking about solos. The solos on Deliverance
kickass imo.
I think creating own solos are a facinating thing. I like mine to have a
little "theme" of some sort. Themes can be a concept-thing or mere guidelines:
- start off low and climb up the fretboard (haven't heard that one before :Smug
- string-skipping to create a Eric Johnson-feel
- long notes and extremely moody (a lot of keytones )
- incorporate the lowest and highest notes on the fretboard in some way.
I try to come up with new themes for every solo. My latest one was kinda
like the eighties' rock solos (but don't ask me why and shit ).
How do you guys make solos?
Like:
Opeth - Nice melodies and cool passages with limited speed runs
DragonForce - Breath-taking speed runs
David Gilmour - Soulful bendings and melodies
Jimi Hendrix - Experimental and cool
Robin Trower - Bluesy (without dampening? )
