Demo recording -Andie's Samples

Yeah Fabz! sounds good man!!

Frankie has allready made the important points on the sounds, i agree, the kick should be a bit fatter to make the solid combination with the guitars..

I love the chorus by the way!

Sounds way much better now. Mayby try a tiny little more of around 3KHz and a little bit crisp/presence in the vox. The vox sounds a little bit dull now but the volume is perfect. And try a little bit of a doubling/light chorus effect in a subliminal way on the vox, but this is a matter of taste.
@Neon: what would you say? A little more of around 80-100Hz in the kick depending on taste, or not?

Fabz.. yes! much better allready! good job, and Frank'nfurter, yes, i agree with you, a little more around 80-100HZ could do the job.. that should fit perfectly!

I am listening to it on tiny tinny sounding speakers now though, so can't trust too much on my judgement right now... but you could give it a shot...

Still, i love the vocals on the chorus the best, really good.. :worship:

Hey Guys!!!!

Version 3 is online for you

http://www.noisechamber.de/sound/from_the_remains3.mp3

I added some more low mids on the kick @ around 84HZ as frankie suggested.
And added a little 2,8 on the Vocals + a little presence @about 12 (very little amount)

Now i think this will work for me.

Are you Guys interested in some detailed info on how i did this recording?

Thank you for your comments so far...

@fabbio what do you not like? The voice or the performance? I want to improve my vocals! It's my first time doing vocals like this...

The performance. Too strangled. You should choose between growling hard or screaming.
Go check the Nitronium Blood's thread about growl vocals, there's good stuff in it. You can find it in the archives.
Cheers!

ahhh i see! i understand what you mean... The thing is, i tried different styles already and i like the hardcore shouts more than the Deathmetal stuff i bought Melissa Cross' DVD and took some lessons so i think i'm on the right way. I'm learning. I never did this kind of vocals before. And like everything else: "it takes time to get better".

Btw: I like my vocals pretty much and i think no one can imitate me. ;)
Plus i can do that for hours without hurting my voice... so i think i do it the right way. Maybe it's the microphone we used... SM58...

I am a total noob here so bare with me a while, but... I can't hear any dramatic diferences between the three versions other than a large volume increase in nº 2 with respect to nº 1. What should I be looking out for?

Great tune by the way. The vocals sound very fear factoryish!! I dig them. And it sounds good!

this is my "studio"report (a little long)

We wrote and recorded this Song and 4 others within the last 4 weeks.
We used my dirt cheap Laptop with Pro Tools M-Powered for everything.
Drums are completly programmed but we had our drummer with us while sequenzing.
Vocals are a Mix of SM58 and a 29€ condenser mic from Thomann.
We did the vocals in my "mini-homestudio" under the roof. ;)

Guitars are quad-tracked LTD Eclipse into my TS808 into PODxt "5150" and "JCM800" with the gain @ 6 ;).
5150 is panned 100/100 JCM is panned 70/70.

Mastering is T-Racks24 with the "gentle and fast" Preset (i love presets cos' i'm crap)

That's it i think... As you can see we are on a budget but we try to get the best possible
result out of the equipment we have. I'm very pleased with how it sounds and
i think Frankie and Neon were of great help during the last stages. Thank YOU Guys!!!!!

It's just a little more "Bass" on the Kick drum and i added a little presence to the vocals. It's not that dramatical but it is there... Frank and Neon are absolutly right!

Thanks for the kind words Lurion!!! This song is our "hommage" to fear factory... we all love them!!!

My honest opinion...

The mix is good...guitar tones could be a little fatter (even a POD). The vocal performance is all over the place. The singy chorus part is nowhere near on key (specially the higher harmony). At the very least that part should be re-recorded, as its pretty hard on the ears. Everything else is great...just a little constructive critique.

Yes! Thank you... but what i definatly not going to do is re-record the vocals... Autotune is telling me i'm not out of key... (i know how to use autotune) Maybe it's that you don't like my voice but that's something i can live with... 50% like it 50% don't...

anyway thanks for the opinion...

Rock on!
