I'm a metal head from Frisco California and am really depressed about the lack of true music available here. It's all yuppy venues with crappy house DJs or indie rock music. Some clubs are still booking metal bands but they're struggling while yuppies are more than happy to go to trendy hot clubs and pay 60 box to watch someone "DJ" on an Apple computer.
Anyways, my favorite band here locally is a hip hop metal band called Thumper. They're the shit. They do a cover of Peace Selles by Megadeth. Check them out: myspace.com/thumpersf
