Of course everything sounds awesome and i would never question Devin.......but is it a good idea to cup the Sm7 like that......wouldn't you get the same result as cupping an SM57 or 58?

Probably not, but who cares? =D

It probably worked for whatever he was going for. I don't have a problem with doing anything against the grain as long as the end result sounds good and is the result I was looking for.

Nope. The diaphragm is set so far back inside the windshield with enough lateral clearance that it doesn't hurt the sound at all. One of the reasons why the SM7 is such an awesome mic for heavy rock/metal vocals. We always tell people to just grab the thing and go for it.

So it's funny, I just gotta say...

The record industry cries and moans about downloading...labels going broke, it's the 'death of the industry'...musicians weep on their forums about the sins of taking food from their kids mouths yaddayadda...

So I get a mail today, saying that the label is sending 1000 unwatermarked promo's out tommorow.

And I'm like...'uh, it's a month and a half before the release...'

and they're like 'yes it is...'

...it's just funny. It's hard to take the complaints of labels seriously when that sort of thing happens.

They think it's a good record and that people will support it, and I truly appreciate that vote of confidence. I love Century Media, and I respect them.

I just think it's kind of funny!
