Devin Townsend's 'Ghost' & 'Deconstruction' streaming at AOLMusic

I don't think you've listened to the album very well... Or you downloaded a shitty cd rip.

I fail to understand how anyone can call this production too loud and overcompressed. It sounds crystal clear to me!
He probably didn't buy a copy from another "region" so as not to harm the artist. He thinks downloading illegally is much better rather than buying discs. And his ears suck for good production.

I just called the WHAAAAmbulance so they can give you some whine with your cheese. With the exception of the Symphony X, Katatonia, Paradise Lost, and Opeth records I think JBs productions blow butt chunks. Paper thin mixes everything is mastered too loud and overcompressed etc. It's my opinion. Deal with it.

I get that it's your opinion and everything, but saying that Deconstruction's mix sucks and is mastered way too loud for your taste is like saying "Death Magnetic is a fucking killer sounding record." It's just wrong on so many levels. Deconstuction clearly has plenty of dynamic range, low end/mid range (for it not to be considered thin), and atmosphere. The fact that you can't hear it because Jens Bogren's name is on it is hilarious to me.

Either that or you really did download a rip of the album @ 96kbps or something stupid.

Jesus christ. A man has a (relatively minor) criticism and you guys just jump down his throat.

CHIIIIILLLLLLLL.

He's not -entirely- wrong. It's *clear* as in, not especally muddy production, but there's very little dynamic range to speak of, like all the tracks were mixed at, or close to the same volume, which won't necessarily cloud things up, but it almost sounds like there's a white noise track laid over everything.* Maybe that's a problem with the AOL music player (since I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive) or something, but at least as it's played from there...yeah. it's not as awesome as it could be, specially when you compare it to Ghost (and Ki and Addicted, even Ziltoid, for that matter)

Regardless, it's mix isn't nearly as bad a Physicist.

*I feel pretty good that this is a compression artifact. Whether it was generated in the studio or was introduced in the compression format, I don't know. I'm hoping it's the latter, but I can totally hear them.

Now i'm not *EVEN* knocking Deconstruction's writing and material. I think in taht regard, it's quickly becoming very high up on my favorite album lists, and is still one of, the if not the best of 2011 so far.
