Diablo - Icaros

http://www.myspace.com/diablometal

Top riffing, good soloing. A fresh sounding scandivian metal according to me.

The recording was done in :

Fantom Studio
Aurinkokuja 9
FIN-33420 Tampere

Any fins know about that studio ?

Seems like they are not distributed outside finland ?! And very famous inside Finland.

Yeah, the album is top notch production wise and the songs are very good too.

They are very famous here in Finland, but their previous record company didn't really do anything to get them known outside Finland.

They did sign to a new company, so I hope they will get the change to show people what they got outside Finland.

Yeah, Sakara Records - even though they're still a pretty small-scale company, but growing all the time - has stated that they are focusing mostly on getting Diablo known outside Finnish borders, too. Hope it works out, they sure deserve to be noticed!

I have 3 of their albums and really like the band. The guitars are awesome. The new album seems to be no exception. :kickass:

I'm actually in practical training in there at the moment. Great place! Learn alot of good stuff there. And Samu Oittinen(owner) is very nice guy.

And new Diablo sounds awesome!

waouh, the "metal oriented" audio engineers community is small ;)

Did Samu produce and mix the album ? if he did, told him the Andy Sneap forum love his work ;)

Do you know any other works from him that we could appreciate ?

Nice : http://www.fantomstudio.fi/studio/kalusto.htm
Have a good time over there ;)

There was an interview they did for a local TV station that shows them working in the studio, tracking guitars to be more specific.

Let me find it... ah: http://www.yle.fi/media/asxgen.php?.../video/LEVYBISNEKSEN_MUUTTUVAT_RAHAVIRRAT.wmv

Very short with not a lot of footage from the studio, but anyways. Watch the whole thing, since there is some better footage of the guitar rig at the end of the clip. Looks like a Triaxis to a Mesa power amp + a POD

And enjoy the wonders of the Finnish language while you are at it :kickass:

.. driving two cabinets and picked up with 4 mics in total. Forgot the details, Samu did send an sms but I've since deleted it.. dagnammit :(

We got our latest album mixed at Fantom Studio and are going to record drums for our next one there also. Great place and I heard that it's going to get even better!

Oh yeah, our singer was also on the backing choir on Icaros :heh:

Melleva: say hi to Samu from me!

<----- Insomnium have recorded there, its one of the reasons I love them so much, I've never heard guitar tone like it. I've tried finding out various things about Fantom, recording process etc but to no avail.

Melleva: say hi to Samu from me!

In other band session he used, if I do remember correctly, one 57 and neumann 103 in one cab and akg 414 and old 421 in other.

Yeah I will tell him that you said hi. Going there again tomorrow.

Did Samu produce and mix the album?

He recorded, engineered and mixed it. And produced it with Nygård and Utriainen.

Do you know any other works from him that we could appreciate ?

You should check out Machine Menhttp://www.myspace.com/machinemenband. I don't like the music so much but the production sounds good.

I remember the single from the previous album was #1 song in Finland for a few weeks. Talked to the drummer once, really cool guy.

I miss Tampere and Finland big time... :) (BTW: recognized the record-store in the video)

The band is really cool about answering any questions.

I dont know about the recent album, but they always used a Triaxis through a 2:90 and Lexicon GX2 and the other guy a Triaxis through a 2:50 for Live stuff.

Marco said all their guitar recordings were done through a POD.

I believe Elegence in Black, Renaissance and Eternium.

I am surprised it has taken this long to see their name pop up in a forum.

Diablo is awesome. Their writing has changed a little since the last 2 albums, but the first 3 were tits from start to finish.

The Icaros sleeve has a Line 6 logo inside of it.

Ohnononono. Samu would never let that happen. At least not for rhythms. Leads and "fx" guitars are a different matter. They probably used Pods while writing/demoing songs.

I'm waiting for Marko to write me back on which albums the Line 6 POD was used on and what specifically was used on Icaros. He just wrote me yesterday so hopefully it wont take forever to hear back from him.
