Nah thats a fly agaric, it won't kill you.

Some people use them as hallucinogens, they might upset you a bit, but you'd have to eat a shitload of the bastards for it to be fatal.

Well.. it depends.
I have a friend who accidentally ate one in his early teens, and he got liver failure + splenomegaly(Swelling & shutdown of the spleen.).
He survived, but just nearly.

Although its probably as you say.. my aunt ate several as a child but survived(Although her parents made her vomit almost immediately after she ate them.).

Sure it was a fly agaric? Liver failure from one mushroom indicates something much more potent. Like a death cap or a destroying angel - those things can properly shut your liver fast.

I wouldn't eat a fly agaric as they are toxic but I've been led to believe they aren't that dangerous (no recorded deaths in the last 100 years). Although the general rule with any mushroom should be don't touch it if you aren't properly educated on them.

Yup, 110% sure(Im fairly sure we dont have death cap in this part of the country.).
But mushrooms have a tendency to pick shit up from the ground, so it might have been even more toxic.. all i know is that he almost died from it.

Holy fuck, do you guys have Mushroom Class on Europe or you know it all by trying to get high?
I know what is a champignon, a shitake, a shimeji and that´s it.

Nopes, but at least i got to learn in kindergarten how to recognize the most toxic mushrooms we have, because we have allot of "temperate coniferous forest"(Had to google that one.), meaning that we have allot of mushroom(And stupid kids will eat anything.).

Nah, my dad used to talk me out on walks for mushroom picking as a kid. Trying to find any ceps to bring home and cook up or whatever. My dad knows his shit on mushrooms so I kinda know a bit by being around him for so long. There are some pics in my house of me holding these massive fly agarics as a kid that were about the size of my face. Mushrooms are pretty cool really.

Funniest ones are these:

They're called stinkhorns, they look like dicks and they smell like shit, I'm not lying when I say you can smell these things about 40 meters away, totally rancid.

That's interesting, I read a bit more up on them just to check what the deal was and found this:

The most deaths from mushroom poisonings does occur from poisonings from the Amanita species, but it is the Amanita’s related cousins that are poisonous, NOT (according to reports) the Amanita muscaria or the Amanita pantherina. Mycologists often choose to err on the side of caution, though, and therefore have labeled the entire species as poisonous. There are well-known religious cults that exist today in both the United States, Siberia, and a couple of other places; if the Amanita muscaria were deadly, there is a great possibility that its use as the center of a religious practice would not have lasted very long.

Maybe your friend just had a particularly bad reaction to them or something.

Yeah, in Sweden they are called "liksvamp", meaning "cadaver mushroom".. guess why they have that name?

.. seriously though, its horrible when you are out taking a walk, and all of a sudden all you can smell is this horrid smell of rotting flesh.
Its like someone put a carcass in your nose or something.

As i said, im not sure about why he got that reaction, but it was indeed fly argic.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amanita_muscaria said:
Amanita muscaria contains a number of biologically active agents, at least two of which, muscimol and ibotenic acid, are known to be psychoactive. A toxic dose in adults is approximately 6 mg muscimol or 30 to 60 mg ibotenic acid,[56][57] this is typically about the amount found in one cap of Amanita muscaria.[58] However, the amount and ratio of chemical compounds per mushroom varies widely from region to region and season to season, which further confuses the issue. Spring and summer mushrooms have been reported to contain up to 10 times as much ibotenic acid and muscimol compared to autumn fruitings.[52]

A fatal dose has been calculated at approximately 15 caps.[59] Deaths from A. muscaria have been reported in historical journal articles and newspaper reports;[60][61][62] however, with modern medical treatment a fatal outcome would be extremely rare.

So it seems like they can be allot more toxic depending on where they grow at what time.
And people seem to have died from them.. but yeah, seems to be pretty rare.
