Never said that. But it is a fact that in 99% of the cases, unwanted pregnancy (excluding rape and such) can be avoided if people act with caution.

I agree that you shouldn't keep a child if you're not sure you can raise it well and good. However, there's plenty of couples who can't have children and who would give your little one all the loving it deserves. Surely giving the kid up for adoption is a much more humane solution than just getting rid of it?eaeolian said:"Being responsible" is evaluating the entire situation, and making the best decision to fit that situation. Sadly, we don't really teach people to do that in the U.S. - in fact, we promote ignorance in many cases, which is more likely to lead to a dogmatic, rather than rational, decision.
Making a knee-jerk comment like "you make a mistake, you carry the consequences", and expecting your blanket analysis to fit all situations is the sort of thing that I think is irresponsible, but maybe that's just me.

Stormrider1981 said:Nothing theological about it. I'm agnostic, so I put very little stock in theology. True, aborting a foetus in its early stages isn't inhumane but we all know unwanted pregnancies are often discovered too late, so that the fetus has already gestated quite a bit.

I'm so sick I just started a biography of Remy Schrijnen
True. Over here in Europe things are more liberated. No one really raises an eyebrow anymore at the concept of single moms or parents who aren't married.eaeolian said:I'd point to those issues as having the same root cause - a lack of education, and societal stigma surrounding the whole process. (i.e., "You're pregnant!? And not married!? You slut! Your life is over!")
It's not as bad as it used to be, in some places. In the U.S., it's worse.

The Last Knight of Flanders is the story of the Flemish volunteers of Germany's famed Waffen-SS, told by those who were there. The book centers around Remy Schrijnen, the only Flemish volunteer to win the heralded bravery award, the Knight's Cross to the Iron Cross. The book presents the varying viewpoints of the war as told through the eyes of Schrijnen and those who surrounded him. From enlisted men to officers - those who were there tell it like it was. Since 1830, Belgium has been a country consisting primarily of two peoples: the French-speaking Walloons and the Dutch-speaking Flemings. Despite the fact that they are the minority in regards to total population, the Walloons have dominated and ruled the Belgian government since the very beginning, which has prevented prosperity for the Flemings. The Flemish volunteers sided with the Germans in World War II in hopes that the blessings of the victor would gain them independence within their native country.Stormrider1981 said:Who?
