Digimax lt vs. firepod

I'm currently running an emu1212m and flat out don't have a decent preamp. Since I'm broke I wanted to hit two birds with one stone and expand my ins via the a/dat in so I could actually record drums and such. I'm going to be buying monitors at the same time so price is becoming an issue- pound for pound which is better? fyi I get this at GC employee discount which is dead cost.

As long as I'm asking questions- how do you guys feel about yamaha hs8's? They seem flat but maybe lacking in low end response...

you're dead right about the yamahas, you really need the subwoofer to get a full-bandwidth system going. It's like everything is fine and then you listen to your mix on other speakers and the bass is wayyyyy above what you thought
