Right,

this is gonna be tricky because i don't really have any examples to hand as i am horribly skyving off in work. I really want to know how people get that sort of digital gurgling sound (sometimes used on guitars) where it sounds like the matrix or some shit.:bah:

I'm gonna try and scour some samples but its one of those things i hear in passing and think :| shit i want that!

I am sure i heard it on a TDWP track? *EDIT* Hey John, What's your name again? 1:20

I can't suss this out and it's driving me up the wall for about a week now.:yell:

Help a brother out!

There are two things that could be what you mean (I can't be arsed to search for the thing you posted).

One is a digital quantising-type thing, where you use an effect to reduce the bit depth of a track, which basically turns it into unrecognisable junk - that's what I'd call the "Matrix" sound, with the whole Neo screaming and the camera going down his throat thing. I don't know of a pedal that can achieve the same thing, you need to find a VST to do it.

The other type is like Deftones use in the middle of Digital Bath - starts around 2:30:

That's a phaser effect sometimes called "stepping", where it uses a random square wave over the input signal to make the phased sound (you can do the same with a synth but I don't know how, it's called something like "hold filter") - I used to have a DigiTech HyperPhase which recreated that sound perfectly, but I've not found a VST that recreates it yet.
