I think he and Pantera are way over rated. If he wasnt shot there would be no hype. What do ya think? Im not a hater its just my opinion.

I agree, though I do like Pantera's glam stuff and Cowboys From Hell. However, all of the dumbass Dimebag fanboys make me ashamed to admit it.

I dont mean to shit on him im just not that impressed by pantera there were other thrash bands that were way better at the time.

Tastes differ. I'm not the biggest Pantera fan out there (I like some of their material though) but Dimebag brought his own style of guitar playing and I usually respect creators and innovators.

His murder very likely added some hype but that's understandable and I think there would still be hype even without this tragedy, since the band had such a strong image and personality.

Look at me, I listen to mainly Black Metal and Grindcore/deathgrind and I still love pantera, mainly for Dimebag. No matter what my musical tastes are, he will always be my favorite guitarist. I am not some stupid brainless tough guy Pantera fanboy. That man deserves to be remembered forever.

RIP

I really dig "Cowboys From Hell" and about half of "Vulgar Display of Power" but they sort of lost me after that. They lost me stylistically though. The musicianship from both Vinnie Paul and Diamond Darrell were still incredible. In fact, I would say Vinnie Paul is and Darrell was elite in their day.

What hype? Feels to me like he was shot and forgoten. People should rant and rave about him for as long as possible as far as I'm concerned. I like Pantera and Damage Plan's music alot, Dimebag was brilliant and a real unnecessary lost to metal.

I loved Pantera, still do. I remember listening to Pantera way back in the mid 90' s and thinking they kicked ass then too. Hes gotten alot of hype and shit because of the shooting but he didnt choose to be shot so I we cant blame him for the hype. Not that Im saying anyone is blaming him. I liked alot on Far Beyond Driven and Trendkill.

Dime was an amazing guitarist. Pantera wasn't just about Dimebag. They were a really good band.

I wouldn't really say Dime's murder was over hyped. I mean...He was only young. That's why it was so sad.

Never like Pantera and I do consider them highly overrated and worse, responsible for a lot of the mallcore crap that plagues us today.

As for Dimebag I'm not a musician so I can't comment on his skills.

I couldn't have said it better!
R.I.P Dimebag!

opinion and tastes differ, obviously not everyone here will understand that Maiden and Guardian are forever the best metal bands.

however, i do like them, and he was very skilled indeed. he was a great guitar player and person. the hype about his skill did not result from the shooting- i believe it was always there and around, but people never connected or had a reason to connect about it.

that said, something like that also deserves a bit more respect than i think may normally be giving. i think he was a very good guitar player and writer. pantera was unique IMO for their time, and did very well i think.
