This video was shot in 1984. The quality of the whole thing is great! Check it out. By the way, what the heck is the deal with Howie Mandell hosting this? I was only 8 years old at the time, so I don't remember this!

Um, last time I checked, Howie was hosting one of the most popular game shows of all time...

And hosting a GAME SHOW makes you an A-List celebrity?

Sean Connery and Alex Trebek are in a room. You only have time to take pictures with one. I can't imagine which one it would be.

(Actually, booB is sorta illustrating my point further. Some bands out there are still a huge deal...in metal. Their sales are still laughable compared to other genres.)

I'm just pointing out that you're delusional if you don't think Howie Mandell is still popular. I wouldn't be surprised if more people watch him now than back then.

Trebek, by a large margin. I'm a die-hard Jeopardy! fan, and Sean's good days are at least ten years behind him.

Yeah but Trebek doesn't belong to a league of extraordinary gentlemen now does he?

maybe a league of sub-ordinary game show hosts that are doomed to be replaced by actors like Drew Carrey. :Smug:

and by the looks of it, I can see why Howie chooses to be bald these days.

That's not the point. It's not how many people watch you, it's how bankable you are and what projects you're attached to. Howie Mandell used to be able to write his own ticket and do any hip new thing he wanted. I'm not saying he's not popular now...I'm saying he's limited as to what he can do. Back then he coulda done anything. He was HUUUUUUUUGE.

Exactly like the difference between 80s Heavy Metal and today! (Just like the stuff today is probably a lot better than back then ;) but that, like this argument, is a matter of taste)

Yeah but the point of the comparison should have been pretty clear.

OMFG?! I ACTUALLY SAW THIS WHEN IT FIRST AIRED!!!! I definitely remember Y & T , & Alcatrazz & Dio!!! Very fucking cool!!! This came on a friday or a saturday night/early morning , not sure which, at around 1 or 1:30 am On local ATL Channel 2!!!!! NO Shit!! I was going to Open Campus high school when this aired it was either in 83 0r 84?! Definitely weird mix, w/ the obvious Non-Metal Dancers & Howie?! But Hey I still LOVE howie!!!! Here's some Howie Mandell trivia for ya! How many of y'all remember howie & several other comedians, Jim Stahl, Gail Mathius & Lucy Webb & Jeff Altman, on a weird strange show where they'd have sketch comedy & standup & music videos in the early 80's called Laugh Traxx?! !982 I beieve it was?!
