Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is a first - a statue of a metal musician. There have been statues of rockers before (Elvis, The Beatles) but none of a metal musician.

I think the statue of liberty could use a little company... a 150 ft copper likeness of RJD in the NY bay would be a fitting tribute.

No, it's not. Phil Lynnot statue was unveiled in Dublin back in 2006. The DVD concert Gary Moore & Friends "One Night In Dublin" has some shots of the ceremony.
