If they had used Sneap, KK might not being a whining little twat constantly crying....oh hang on yes he would.

It's really going to be hard to step up and listen to the next album, even if they do get a producer in to oversee. After the last two albums it's going to be impossible not to listen without prejudice. I understand some people will be waiting with baited breath, those who think this album really qualifies as something good, but I honestly don't think most of those people actually understand what MC really was.

What I do find interesting though is that those who have reviewed Damned as a great album have not really gone into detail about why it was good. Sure they have said it sounds good, or it's got some good riffs, or even that that it's such a great follow up from the last one. But none of them seem to have really put much depth in their reviews. Maybe it's a sign of the reviewers, maybe we should all rely on Metal Injection reviews only :)
I agree, most of it sounds like generic round about praise with no real specifics. And nobody has asked about the other members of that line up. Like it doesn't matter. It does. Or they don't know those albums. Which would be sad, because they are classic greatness. Those are the albums that put them in the league of the other great metal bands of the time. But their peers have grown and gotten better....
Speaking of Sneap, I was worried about Overkill not being able to use him this time around because The Grinding Wheel sounded really good. but I have no complaints about the song Last Man Standing. I think it sounds pretty good.

what the hell even is this thread anyway?

It started as a 2018 ranking thread but someone got upset when I didn't agree that Metal Church was the best album in the world so they moved part of it and added the stupid title so that it's all out of whack. CIG's effort was part of that original ranking thread.

It's been hard to compare MC to their metal peers for a while now and it's definitely going to make it difficult to listen to the next album. I suppose I'd be slightly interested to hear some of these songs live to see if they 'heavy' them up a bit, but I don't hold much hope. I would expect them to dull down their older songs, or ignore much of their old set list.

Yeah I didn't create it, my comment was just the first in a chain of replies deemed off-topic to the original thread, which apparently was about just posting lists.

Confusing idiocy but whatevs.

I would imagine they could sound better live. Maybe a lot better...but not Monkey Finger, that's a wash lol.

I saw that live at Wacken MC video which I think was 2016 (maybe) and they sounded okay but it was still down on the power what they should be capable of.

Yeah it is. They need the old band back. Howe and the bass player have energy. But the drummer and that lead just aren't very metal to me.

Badlands video was the first time I heard them too. It was surprising to hear in Aus at the time because our only true metal clip show didn't play heaps of unknown stuff and Metal Church was a band that was difficult to get here even on import.

One of my main memories of that video is Big John. The way he just dwarfed everyone lol. The first time I saw the video it was followed by Flotsam's cover of Saturday. Great time!

I don't think Flotsam every got played on our Saturday night video show until maybe the late 90's, maybe even more recent.

I just loaded up Badlands on YT and I think fans of Damned if you do have been posting videos on YT
Check out the writing credits in the "show more" bit.
One of the comments even suggests that MC put Metallica to shame...not quite the case these days :)

Still haven't listened to the new Metal Church. For the most part the post-Hanging stuff is kinda average-ish overall to me. Generation Nothing is underrated imo, easily the Munroe album with the best energy/immediacy.

They were good when I saw them touring for XI. Armored Saint was better, but it was a fairly strong setlist (I don't like The Human Factor much so if you do you'd probably like the setlist more) and a good performance.

Not overly surprised that AS were better. I've never seen either band live but while the videos on the net of Wacken 2016 for MC are okay I've seen AS do much better. With the Wacken videos Howe really looked like he was trying hard but it wasn't really paying off. He seemed to interact with Kurdt more than the others in the band and on songs like Fake Healer and Badlands he just seemed so far off where he should have been that it made it harder to watch. By the look of the ground in the Wacken video it had rained before the MC gig and the crowd were spread in the early part of the set which also makes it hard for a band to get into the gig but it seemed the crowd warmed up as the sun came out.

Age is obviously a bit of a factor with Howe and good luck to the guy I doubt I could do what he does these days. But while I'll give any videos of the Damned tour a go (because I doubt they will tour Aust on the sales of the album to see them) I don't hold a lot of hope for something like they once were.

I'm not surprised either. AS has had a much more stable line up. I give Howe a pass a little on the 2016 tour since he had just come back after 25 years of not doing music. But the band is left over from at least the last album with Ronnie. They just have no charisma and seem more like rock guys. If Howe is still like that on the tour for the new album I guess it is age. He's still really powerful though. Just has a bit of trouble with a few things.
