Just got a new 5 string bass, so I thought I'd go in for but of drop A flat action, It's not very long and I know some of the riffs are somewhat generic But just tell me what you think.

Cheers dude! Yeah, the guitars and bass are both Big Bottom, but the solo stuff is the treadplate.

Hey dude, these are the settings I use on the BB:

The drum sounds are AD, and I just used a SLIGHTLY tweaked version of the preset that Fuge86 posted a while ago, and just added a second track of Kick sound with the sneap kick sample on it.

And I've also been working on this a bit so here's a slightly updated mix with a better kick sound, bit more full sounding, and some extra bits on the end.

What cab/mic sim did you use?

I used the Brit Celest V30 cab sim with the 421 mic. There was also an FX boost stomp with low gain and bass, and high mid and treble, then mid freq in the centre.

I'm guessing the big bottom really only works well with detuned rhythm and no lead stuff?

It sounds good for any tunings in my opinion, and it's fine for high stuff if it's part of a techy riff, but as far as soloing goes, it's not incredible sounding.

It's so compressed, that my "too compressed" ruff mixes sound crystal clear.

Haha, fair enough dude, yeah might've over-done the limiting a bit I'ts weird 'cos listening back to it now, it makes me think "how the fuck did I not hear how ridiculously compressed this is" Thankyeh for the tip man!

It's the same with everything that has to do with tweaking/mixing and things involving listening for a long time. Your ears get used to how it sounds, not how it should sound. Take a break every half hour or so, for about 10 minutes. When you start working again, your ears will hear it as it sounds again.
