Do I buy THIS piece of gear or THIS piece of gear?!

Im facing a dilemma!

I've been set on my next purchase being a new interface (Foucsrite Saffire Pro 40) as right now I have the normal Focusrite Saffire which only has 4 inputs. I wanted to get the interface as I wanted to actually start recording drums rather than programming all the time!

HOWEVER

My college tutor messaged me saying he is selling his Mac G5 for £300! It has Logic 8 pre-installed, 6gb of RAM and 2 320gb hard drives.

Logic is my DAW of choice and I've been using my Macbook for the last 3 years anyway.

What would you do? What do you think is the wise choice?

I'd be wary of getting old tech like that. Seems like a great deal, but it won't be supported for much longer, and you'll need to upgrade later on anyway..

Will the G5 get you nearer towards being able to record drums? No, it won't.

Get the interface and eventually upgrade your Macbook when it becomes too much of a bottleneck and you're having the funds.

That deal on the G5 is anything but bad and these machines still perform quite well but it's simply no investment towards the future. Old systems are more likely to fail at some point and the support for these machines drops figuratively by the hour.

Thanks for the opinions guys. I just always worry about my Macbook as I'm carrying it round with me everyday, everywhere haha

I'll opt for the interface
