this is not just directed at bean town ppl.

we went there for lunch today and it was radtastic. they have some of the best pre-made salads with interesting combinations (like pears, pine nut, and gorgonzola). plus they had these macadamia spice muffins that were awesome. (it's like a giant salad bar with breads and soups and stuff.)

WELL FINE THEN!

yeah, not the best, but good in terms of "things available around a shopping mall". the vietnamese place down the street from my apt is possibly better, but that's like comparing apple endive salads and orange chickens.

yeah, I'll keep it in mind for when I travel.

I live one block off a long street that has every kind of restaurant imaginable, and most are actually really good. something like 8 thai restaurants, 2 wine bars, 4 italian places, 1 pure veg chinese place, a million other chinese places, 3 indian places, a tibetian place, falafel etc etc

i've never seen a "sweet tomatoes", but i think there's a restaurant called "hot tomatoes" in Hartford that has awesome supercheesy garlic bread.

down the street from me, in allston, there's this crazy restaurant renaissance going on. there's a four-block or so area that has maybe three dozen restaurants, virtually every one of which is AWESOME and CHEAP. it can't last; some are going to go out of business, but now's a great time to be a foodie resident of allston.

but i don't have avi's antichain snobbery. i'll eat at the olive garden, i admit it.

there's just no reason to eat at a chain restaurant in Berkeley. In fact, they really just don't exist here. If I wanted to go to Olive Garden, I'd hafta drive to the burbs.
