Hi Everyone,

An answer to the following question will really help me. I am planning on buying a 6505+ and 1960B (i would prefer a more expensive cab but this is all i can afford!)in the coming month but...

i would like to know whether best results for guitar sound& tone will come from placing a distortion pedal in front of the head or using the distortion from the head itself? :loco:

i have seen many posts on this forum talking about placing a tube screamer in front so i am wondering is this the preferred way to go to preserve tone or what?

thanks :headbang:

Amp distortion. There would be no point in buying a great high-gain tube head to then run it on clean and stick a POS pedal in front of it!!

If you use the search function you will find out that the TS is used purely as a boost for an already overdriven tube amp, with very little gain at all.

ahhh i see thanks!
So the issue i have is that i have a Boss GT6 which is fanatastic for alot of effects that i have in my songs but it doesnt have an external channel switch option. So for live work its gonna be difficult to switch to the amp distortion for rhythm sound (unless i use both feet as once or may be buy a midi switch pedal...?)

I could have swore there was a channel switch on the GT6... I know the GT8 has one

PS Stockholm... GT6... Laney amp... by any chance do we have an Opeth fan?

Guys - don't get excited my Laney is a solid state 120W World Series from 1991. I do like opeth a lot although my sound is and playing is nothing like them.
Incidently i did have the opportunity to play with them in the UK a number times in 1996/97.
-Noumenon i see you are in uppsala. My office is here in Uppsala, working for GE in Boländerna.

:kickass:

Cool:kickass: ..so the TS or tubeking boosts your signal before hitting the pre in the amp which gives a better/tighter sound?...right?

yeah man way better sound
besides the tubescreamer also try a boss sd-1 in front of the amp (the 6505+ i also own one) it sounds nice i think ...

Ok, sounds like a plan. Thanks for the input.
My main issue now is how to integrate the GT6? I see the only solution is to buy a midi channel switcher so that the patch changes on the GT6 will automatically switch the 6505 between clean and gain......right?
