In retrospect, I realize he's playing North America and most likely on a rented kit, but still...he probably asked for them to be that size, right?

Thats possible, though I'd doubt 18's compared to 22's matters and incredible amount when you are touring with a kit of that size anyways. Would be like 10-15 pounds lighter of a load.

I'm pretty sure he triggers, yeah...

18" kicks are easier to play. The smaller surface area of the head creates more rebound. Like Unavoidable said, I'm sure he triggered them.

Anyone noticed the two 112s? :goggly:
I know it's not 100% proof he doesn't trigger but why but em up if they aren't going to be used anyway? Certainly not for that 1% in the audience that's going to check for mics anyway...

Blending trigs and mics is common enough. I noticed em. I've also noticed Suicide Silence play (twice) with 2 kicks, both with mics in them, and the drummer is using a double pedal on one kick drum. Go figure.

The drumtech for In Flames once told me that they just have the second kick there for the looks. Only having to keep one drum in shape/tune while being on tour is easier so they go for that option.

And yes I'm aware of the trigger/mic combination. But in that case the sound of the actual kick drum would matter so the statement "He'll trigger it anyway" doesn't make sense any more.
