Hey, my name is Dylan Roop, I own OhMyChild Designs

I'm on the forums quite often, and I see a lot of bare pages.

I can design anything you need, from myspace layouts (including the new beta 3.0 format) all the way to album art and merch.

My rates are super cheap, almost half as much you'd pay with sons of nero and synapse.

Hit me up if you need anything.

What an excellent marketing strategy

OhMyChild Designs?

Creepy name, sounds like something I'd expect to hear in a Catholic church.

First post fail.

I dunno. Now I know his name is Dylan and he's SUPER CHEAP. Now, add some cheap viagra, horny lesbians and perhaps a strange but rather large inheritance from a lesser-known region of Nigeria and I'd say we have a deal.

Seriously though, I can't think of a more retarded way to advertise your business than telling straight-up that you're 50% cheaper than this and that company. That's horrible, horrible business practice, gives a really fucking bad impression and it doesn't exactly get you any new friends from fellow designers. Nice one, brah!

Alright, im going to delete this, i agree, pretty bad way to market my company,

I thought it wouldnt be a big deal sense it was in the off topic section, guess not.

Thread title addresses bands. Bands are the apogee of fucking cheapskates.

IME there's no better way to interest a band than saying "50% cheaper!!!"

If this/that company is booked up they wouldn't bat surplus enquiries his way 'cos he hadn't compared his rates to theirs, would they? So who cares if the competition hates you?

Biggest fail of the post is failing to provide a link to portfolio.

THIS! Huge fail there, so by saying your name is ohmychild and you're cheaper than dirt we should pay you upfront for a design right? Show your work!

I do agree with Jarkko on the "I'm cheaper than this company" comment, I see it as pretty lame and people will take you for a low ethic person, plus sometimes people see expensive as good, so I think it's better to use the word "affordable" than "cheap" but that's just me, when I hear cheap I associate it with "of not good quality"

I actually think there is no harm done in saying you are cheaper. Millions of companies do it all the time. It's a free world.

The fact that there is no link to a portfolio is much worse ... especially when there's dudes like Genius or me interested in a designer.

AFAIK it doesn't really work like that, at least around here. You can naturally advertise that you're cheap, almost every single electronics retailer etc. does that. But if you advertise by directly naming another company and telling your rates are half of that, especially when the particular company doesn't publicly list their rates, you're in for a shit storm.

In any case, disregarding the written and/or unwritten rules of marketing and advertising is always a douchebag move, at least in my eyes. Just imagine how it would look if I posted an ad here stating that I charge half of what Lasse or Brian Hood charge. Still cool?
