I can't really tell what the rhythm guitar is doing, good mix overall though, just lacking in the clarity department.

It's both actually. I love trying to keep the natural drums very present, but I did blend in some Superior samples on the kick and snare to help. Even though I used samples I still love the challenge of trying to get the best out of all the mic's and actually USE them in the mix. I went with the original toms because, well they sounded great. I just needed to automated the volume on them to make them pop in the mix. I also did some tricks with a transient designer to help get some more attack as well.
