Just wondering if and how much you people download?
And also what program you use?

I mainly only use soulseek. When I first got on line 3 or 4 years ago I downloaded like a feind, don't do much these days though. What I do some times is sit down with a magazine and look for ads or reviews of new albums and try to find them on soulseek. If it turns out to be something I like I'll pick up a real copy, if it's crap then I just saved some cash.

mIRC can be a pain in the ass at first but once you get used to it theres nothing like it :) atleast nothing I'v found ...... I like being able to chat while D/Ling music or play trivia its great fun

I use Kazaa Lite, it's not great but I have found some decent stuff. I've tried emule and soulseek but couldn't figure them out. I have Mirc but how the fuck you find anything with that is a complete mystery.

hahehaaeh
seriously mp3s for samples are ok, but in general i hate that massive mp3 downloading fashion, if it doesnt kill music, it kills the relationship between the listener and the music.

mp3s are even gayer than in flames
For once I agree with this guy, I don't care for MP3's either, I don't download stuff, I buy stuff.
I like to do things the old school way, you listen to something from a friend & then you track down yourself a copy. In this day & age, people don't do much of this anymore. If you do it great, I'm not gonna bust your balls, it just doesn't float my boat.

I'm not one of those Download every album by every band ever like Swastika was, When I do go looking for them I normally try to find Boots or just really rare shit I just CANT get ahold of I mean shit if I hadnt of Downloaded Edguy that one time I would have never discovered one of my favorite bands to basiclly its like you said to each his own, I kinda like to mix up my Old school ways with my new cant help myself hahahaha :D

Yep I also believe that nothing can replace the real thing, the cd!
I d/l from time to time a few songs to try, but if I like what I heard, I won't be satisfied till I put my hands on the real package.

Recording and releasing an album still costs a lot of money, especially for "smaller" bands, let's support the scene folks :headbang:

I totally Agree with you Fang, I love finding new bands and mp3s are a great way of doing that, as I said with Edguy them being my Best example I absolutly love those guys I wouldnt *Own* any Edguy if I hadnt d/led Savage Poetry thats why theres nothing wrong with it ....... on the other hand you take my X for instance she has a computer LOADED with albums she doesnt own and will never own I personally think that is a awful crime these guys put alot of time and effort into the music and it sucks to know that somebody would do that steal their life work hahahaha so ummm yeah thats how I see it

Well put Fangface, I agree with this 100%.
It does hurt the smaller indie label bands, they don't have the backing that the major label bands do.
Jonny D Swastika will be burning in hell for her sins!

It looks like we all download for the same reasons, to check out new stuff and the buy it if we like it. I think downloading has replaced radio and MTv as the way to hear new music.

I also want the real thing, not just an MP3 burn of an album, but with the price of CD's now I very rarely make blind buys. I want to hear 2 or 3 songs before shelling out that much money. For example the new Iced Earth, the price on that thing is like 20 bucks for the 2 discs. After seeing the price I downloaded about half of it and decided it sucked so I saved 20 bucks, otherwise I would have been mad as hell if I'd payed for it.

I use downloading as a means to sample new bands (new to me that is), I prefer the real thing and will get it if I can but I also download albums for the following two reasons:

1. I have a lot of vinyl that I am not going to shell out for on CD (particularly if the band no longer exists).
2. I have yet to find much old NWOBHM stuff available and I don't see many labels rushing to re-issue albums on CD.

Tho' I'd point interested parties in the direction of: http://www.coldtown.com/elixir/ as ELIXIR have pressed 50 CD's of each of their 2 albums and are flogging 'em at £7 apiece, post-free, to anywhere in the world. There's no way I'd rip-off bands like this.
