dragonball or dragonball z fans?

I used to watch Dragon Ball in Mexico way before it came to the US. I used to love it as a kid. This movie looks horrible. They don't seem to be sticking to the original series at all.

It doesn't look so bad. I mean, it can't be too easy to recreate an anime without having to take some creative license. It looks kinda cool, mostly if you pretend to know nothing about the series, and at least it doesn't look low-budget. The characters are surprisingly well-done, I think. They are unmistakably real life renderings of the anime characters but still being completely realistic. Well, except for Piccolo of course (who totally needs to be more green!). Maybe that's what they were going for; "how do we make DB/DBZ look like a real-life adventure instead of a hokey, outlandish, and completely unbelievable anime that just happens to use people?"

Well, I'm just basing all that off the short trailer, so maybe it really will suck. I'll go see it before I say it's bad. I've been pleasantly surprised by worse *cough*BubbaHotep*cough*

Oh my god. They put piccolo in the movie. This looks so much more rediculious as live action. This is horrific. I bet it makes a ton of money though, I know I'll be going to see it.

You really have to wonder who's doing the thinking in Hollywood these days.

-- "Let's remake a classic animated show in live-action!....but make it look really UNrealistic!" (Speed Racer, THE bomb of 2008)

-- "Let's make some new stories in our beloved storyline! We'll do it using animation, but instead of using glorious classic animation, even hand-drawn like in the good ol' days, which we could EASILY afford, let's do it using some goofy visuals that people won't be able to take seriously!" (Star Wars: The Clone Wars)

Now we have DBZ. "Let's take a classic anime and remake it using live-action, which is typically a recipe for failure in Hollywood."

Actually Speed Racer was a highly enjoyable film. Not sure why people slammed it so much. Probably the same reason they slammed the new Indiana Jones. Its not Oscar material, never tried to be. Both movies are eye canduy and humor. If you want high end performances, go to an opera or a broadway play. For $9 what do you think you get?
