Dream Theater- Constant Motion!!!

That IS their sound.
It was only part of their sound back in the glory days, when they were exciting to listen to.

I do like certain parts of the song, like Portnoy and Labrie's singing. Although Portnoy should try a more aggressive approach, maybe screaming in a Devy way. I think he can pull it off if he really lets his vox rip.

yeah, for a band with all the talent in the world, they are lacking in one aspect....songwriting.

stealing riffs from everyone else and pasting them together in an " epic " song is not songwriting.

terrible song.

I'm not up on my Dream Theater. This automatically gets +5, though, if LaBrie would do something other than play the tambourine during solos.

I've just heard a low quality version "The Dark Eternal Night". Not sure if anyone's heard it yet. The riffs during this song could easily be death metal riffs. Pretty brutal for Dream Theater standards. Once again, just like in "Constant Motion" Portnoy and Labrie sing together except they distort Portnoy's vocals(think Al Jourgensen of Ministry almost), he also screams a couple times which he does pretty damn well. They need to have him do it more often for added atmosphere.

I actually dig this track quite a bit. It's metal but it doesn't seem as forced as Constant Motion.

My excitement of the album is back to where it was before I heard both tracks. I have my hopes up a little bit.

I love the song. The instrumental part is just awesome. I give the song an 8.5/10, and while I like this song, I hope it isn't the highlight of the album, if you know what I mean.

My opinion...

Gee, the band must of been listening to 80's metal when they wrote this song. Jesus, again with the wearing of the influences on your sleeve bullshit. Total shame that a band is being led by bands that have 1/10 their talent and skill.

I'm sorry, but as a fan who loves most of the bands work, and can tolerate Octavarium, this is one of the worst DT songs i've ever heard, because it doesn't feel like them at all. It feels like something their influences wrote. The weird Labrie-vocal part in the middle was cool, but that was total King Crimson.

They really need to try to have a sound of their own instead of copying and pasting influences every which way.

bands change, takes time to get use to it.

it reminded me of The Glass Prison a lot.

It sounds pretty good, but I can't say i'm overly impressed. I've heard some other samples and bits that sound a bit more promising though.

That might because it could be part 4 of The Glass Prison.

I haven't heard the single yet but I know that The Glass Prison is a four part song that Portnoy collaborated to reflect against the steps in Alcoholics Anonymous, which he began to write after he quit drinking:

The Glass Prison = Steps 1-4 of AA
This Dying Soul = Steps 5 and 6 of AA
The Root of All Evil = Steps 7-10 of AA
Constant Motion = Steps 11 and 12 of AA (?)

This cd is definately going to be good. The dream theater sound is always evolving. I really feel they hit a pinacle with octavarium. The title track is an absolute masterpiece.

Excited for the tour. I HAVE to see take the time live again.
