So, first off, I finally decided to give Deathspell Omega a real chance and, damn, good stuff, and I really don't like most black metal. Got Fas, Si Monumentum, and Kenose now. So to a person that's enjoying those three albums but isn't quite a fanatic, is there anything else from the band that's really worth listening to that I should look into? Those three are really the only one's I've seen mentioned a lot on this forum.

SMRC and Kenose are the best. don't listen to people who say fas is the best, they are fanboys.

Yea from all the talk I was expecting Fas to be the best but I really liked SMRC better overall. Personally, Fas has a better evil atmosphere in the more calm parts like Obombration and the opening to Repellant Scars of Abandon, but once it gets heavy, the drums on Fas are way to loud and thrashy to hear anything the guitars might be doing, so it all just sounds like a machine gun. SMRC had the better metal riffs to me, of course. Can't say I've listened to Kenose enough.

And, chaining the katechon, I'll look into it.

yeah the new EP is better than Fas. Don't get me wrong, A chore for the lost is the song that got me to give DSO a second chance, and still in my top 3 DSO songs, but as an album Kenose and SMRC seem to hold together in a way Fas doesn't for me. Other than a chore for the lost i probably wouldn't recognize a song off Fas by name. I (track 1) on Kenose ftmfw and Sola Fide I, II

I'm not sure whats making me think of this, and its a weird jump, but i feel like DSO fans would like Lesbian. Their myspace name is like Lesbian Witch or something. Now they are sludge and not black metal, but they remind me of later DSO for some reason right now. Sadly the clips on their myspace do not do the album justice.

Now that you have that get Chaining the Katechon, Mass Grave Aesthetics (From The Dirt to the Entrails), and Diabolus Absconditus [Crushing the Holy Trinity (father) Compilation]

yeah basically smrc, kenose, fas, and the splits post-smrc and post-fas. everything prior is just darkthrone worship pretty much.

really though, get 1349 - Beyond the Apocalypse. Incredible drumming. Frost is fucking underrated. fuck satyricon. This album blows away anything satyricon ever did.

IMO give Fas further listens, until you can deconstruct the most chaotic parts of the album. That's why I love Fas so much. I love the complexity and Chaos. And the new song from the split, Chaining The Katechon, I beleive they've reached a perfect ballance of chaos, riffage, ambience and yeah, it's just perfect. =P But from there, work backwards, and as others have said, make sure you check out the other recent splits Mass Grave Aesthetics (From The Dirt to the Entrails), and Diabolus Absconditus [Crushing the Holy Trinity (father) Compilation] because 20 minute songs are tasty.

Then there's SMRC.

All their pre SMRC releases are darkthrone worship, and only for the most devout fans, and I'm one of them. Their 2008 compilation, Manifestations 2002, is a nice middle ground between SMRC and their pre SMRC stuff. But SMRC was a huge jump in music style.

But I love this band, and love everything they've ever released.
