I know absolutely nothing about computers, forgive the stupidity

Ok-whenever I start writing an address in the Address Bar a box opens up underneath showing all of the previous addresses I've visited.

How do I turn the bloody thing off - it's driving me mad!!!

You can't... Even if you delete your history and clear your temporary internet files, it always comes back...!

The ONLY way to really get rid of it is to log on in MS DOS mode (if you're using XP, you need a boot disk and a good understanding of command line codes) and you need to delete certain .DAT files... which are incidentally hidden until you un-hide them...

Bill Gates certainly didn't make it easy to do this, believe me!

Of course, I'm just assuming you're using IE. How obnoxious of me!

This might work, if you're using IE:

Go to Tools, then Internet Options

Go to the 'Advanced' tab.

Scroll down until you find 'Use inline AutoComplete for Web addresses' and uncheck the box. If it's already unchecked then... hmm.

Click on OK. See what that does. Don't come crying to me if it still doesn't work, OK? OK???

Tools --> Internet Options --> Clear History

Dont know if that will help, but try it :)

I've never managed to get it working successfully myself. You can delete what you like and it may not *look* like it's still on your machine but believe me, it is!

I can't remember the site I saw it on but there was a huge investigation into these hidden files on your drive that are absolutely unnecessary to make Windows work... People are questioning exactly why they're there and why it's so hard to delete them...

Good tip! :)

But be aware that no matter how much stuff you delete, that info is ALWAYS on your hard drive in those hidden index.dat files in your History and Temp Internet Files and you *can't* delete them from within Windows...

Not that it makes any difference to this problem at all, but it's still kinda annoying...!
