e609, e906, e606 for guitars?

right, ive double tracked the riff on on both accounts, ill upload single files if you want, i just find it better to get the power.

Ive uploaded it as a zip as i kept getting copyright infringement warmings as a streaming mp3 even tho its my own stuff :/

I really struggle to incorporate the 609 into the styles i like, its a lot softer that the SM

anywhoo

old ESP LTD M100 (EMG 81) > Peavey XXL > Marshall 1960A > SM57/e609 >MOTU 8pre

its all one clip, the first mic is the SM57 the second is the e609 bottom right speaker (G1275T) sneap style (pointing at the join between dustcap and cone)

no processing, apart from cleaning the noise off the tracks

Link seems to be dead.

Edit:
Nevermind. It's the Cogent vs. TeliaSonera business which makes a helluva lot of US websites inaccessible from the Nordic countries. Works through a proxy.

Funnily I like the e609 better  The SM57 has that usual thinness and fizzyness to it. Perhaps a combination of both would be nice? E609 to bring the balls to it, and 57 to bring the mid-clarity?

yer they are useable blended, but id rather keep that harsh sound of the SM and just roll off (i do play as i lay dying stuff with that tone) but yeah for more rock orientated stuff the 609 adds a different dimension

It always pissed me off how Sennheiser has their 600 and 900 series, and many models in them are really similar priced (the 602/902 kick mic's, for example). I assume the 900 is supposed to be like Shure's "Beta" series, but on the other hand lotsa people prefer the SM57 to the Beta. Arrrggghhh, anyone have any insight?

i thought the 900 series just replaced the 600 series??!!

I have the e609s, and by itself...yuck. But mixed with a 57...yummy.

agreed, but if you put a 609 at the dust cap/cone joint and a 57 straight at the dustcap, you can get a good tone. the 609 tames the cones lows, and the 57 sounds good directly pointed at the dust cap.
when i first recorded with the 609 i was disappointed cause it cost more than the 57, but the mic has grown on me and i can get a much more usable sound out of it alone after experimenting. when using an emg equipped bc rich v, with a jsx and a maxon 808, i got a real lamb of god esq. tone.
i can post clips later if desired

MetalJonesy thanks for the comparison. To me the 609 sounds a little bit muddy, but it is great!

beyond dead it will be really interesting to hear the clips.

I think the e609 is great for another flavor. I quite like it on guitars when I'm feeling like something different than a sm57.

don't get the e606. nasty boom/proximity effect.

I compared specs between the e606 and e609 and they are different. Maybe they corrected that on the e609.

I liked the sound of the mike because sounded like the amp in the room and alot more smoother. Just sold it because of the boom, cause taked all the headroom out of the preamps. The e609 and e906 are different in specs.

Of course if you need the sm57 bite, afterall that's the sound we're used to hear on the mixes, then the sennheiser alone might sound strange to you (in a mix)

But I agree that they go well together and I'm getting another one (not the e606) in the future. Sounded really smooth and "true" to the amp.

i have both the 906 and 609 and when blended with other mics its great, i like to have it on hand when i want something a little different then a 57 but in the same neighborhood, they both have a softer, fuller sound, which seems to better fit an amp.

also, its much easier due to the side address design to find a sweet spot on the speaker rather than a 57. thats just my experiences. the 57 needs a little more play to find a good spot, ya know, moving just touch into position.

the coolest thing about a 906 is that it is a 609, a 606 and a 509 all in one, at least that's what they say about the presence cut (609), neutral (509) and boost (606)
I almost always use a combination of 57 and 906. the 906 has a it more focused sound than the 57 (less boomy lows and less fizzy highs) and the response seems a bit quicker / tighter.
lately I've been using a combination of 57 off axis and 906 (neutral) on axis and i really love it!
