I was watching Ed do some amazing two handed tapping on his bass and thought he would probably rock on a Warr Guitar. I've had one for a few years and they are really fun, I had mine uncrossed after a year due to my small hands and making it just generally easier. You can check them out at www.warrguitars.com. This is what Trey Gunn plays, he even has a signature series line there.

That thing looks complicated? :)

Never tried one, or have even seen one around? although it looks very interesting. I have no idea how one might slap that? Just Kidding! I have tried the stick and played up to six strings but nothing ever seems to match a FOUR! I had a Jazz 5 string I used on Time Lost but even that was difficult to get in and out!

I discussed this in detail with John Myung from DT on tour he is the six string guy! And it is funny how that makes more sense to him? He is absolutley incredible! as are Trey Gun and Tony Levin! who somehow play these instruments!

Maybe I will see one around and try it someday! how is the tone? thats my thing the tone? I love the sound of the Kubicki! Did you hear that Phil ?????

My tapping influence came from Stu Hamm ( like many ) who I was pretty amazed by! Especially his two handed verion of the Peanuts Theme! It is like a Piano? I guess that is how the Warr works too?

The Warr is faarrrr better than then Stick in terms of tone, the guy who designed them, Mark Warr, is obsessed with woods and tone (he's actually a Fire Chief, and really knows his woods). They really sound awesome, and are fun to play, but I'm kind of obsessed with new instruments and finding ways to break my habit patterns on various instruments.

You're right, Stu Hamm is just unreal, the amount of discipline it took to work out those piano pieces on a 4 string bass is just astounding.

If you have a chance to try one, you should, it's a hoot.
