EDGUY: Entire 'Space Police - Defenders Of The Crown' Album Available For Streaming

Sad that they went the "comedy" route, did not purchase anything after Hellfire Club. When they started out they could have been the next Iron Maiden...

This...

Though, I wouldn't go so far as the next Maiden, but the next Helloween for sure.

I think that is why I am so hard on these guys, because of what they could have been.

Sorry man, this ain't my first rodeo!!!!!!!

I even like some of their stuff since Hellfire Club, but I also agree had they not gone the comedy route, they could have been a better band. Instead, I think Tobi made Avantasia his serious band.

Edguy has always been a humorous band. It's just that the amount of silliness has varied from album to album. That said, they've always portrayed themselves as a bunch of goofballs. It's part of their charm. Even some of their most power-metal-sounding tunes have had some silly lyrics. I think that when detractors are complaining about the latter-day "trying to be funny" direction, what they really mean is "These guys don't sound like Kiske-era Helloween anymore! I don't like it!" I'd be lying if I said that I didn't prefer the first half of their discography, but that doesn't mean that I would dismiss what they've released in the last decade. "Rocket Ride" took a lot of time to grow on me, but it did in a big way. "Tinnitus Sanctus" bored me when I first heard it, but now I don't think it's so bad. "Age of the Joker" is rather overlooked, in my opinion. As for this new album, I have yet to give it a listen, but I have a good feeling after hearing the first single.

Stay metal. Never rust.

But so many of us love exactly what they are!

Oh, and that is perfectly fine........

But I will listen to KISS, POISON, or 80's SCORPS if I wanna hear that sound.
Not the band that for me personally made the greatest power metal album of the modern era with THEATRE OF SALVATION.

Met-Al (If that is even your real name).........
By second coming of HELLOWEEN, I am not even just speaking of them sounding like Kiske-era Helloween only.

Anyhow, sounds like many around here dig the new one and that is great!!!

Trust me, there are bands I LOVE where I will defend every album and find something redeeming about EVERY release.

Last year, I had a hell of a time trying to convince people why the new TROUBLE was amazing. you had to be one hell of a die hard to get that album. LOL..............

the humor is fine. I actually find them funnier than Steel Panther, who try to hard to be comedic.

What I had a problem with, at least before, was the musical direction. I'm a big fan of the style of music they play now, they just aren't that good at it. Hooks that sound huge in a power metal context actually sound inferior when sung in a hard rock context. I'm guessing it's because when you're going all out you can just power through those big hooks, but when you're softer, you have to bring more subtlety to the table. Which Edguy hasn't shown much ability to do. Tobias' talent is writing power metal anthems, not hard rock anthems.

That being said, I do like this album a lot. Best since Rocket Ride.

I've got your real name swinging, Jason. Go take another horse ride!

Stay metal. Never rust.

I finally got to listen to the whole thing today. I love it actually. It rocks, it's funny at times, and the production is top notch. Sure it's not the Edguy of old, but I'm ok with that. How many bands that have 10 albums sound like they did on their first few?
