OK, it's SAT time. The underdog from PPUSA3 that came out and blew everyone away was obviously Edguy. So far, who do you think is in the running for the title of "Best Underdog" this year.

To me, it was far and away Tad Morose. I had one of their discs, and thought it was, well, ya know, "good," but holy crap was their live set insane!

This is for Underdogs... I thought Sevendwarves blew even TM away, but I was expecting that.

Your thoughts?

Tad Morose was very good, and definately my surprise for the night. On the whole though, I still feel Brainstorm is the stronger band. They kicked my ass a Wacken, and I'm betting they'll do the same tonight. I also think Wurthering Heights will surprise a lot of people, as they're very good as well. Their latest album is in my top 5 for the year.

my sentiments exactly. I have become a HUGE fan of Tad Morose only since finding out about them from Glenn and the list for PPV. And their live set was unbelievable! Totally what I expected, and then some. Schmoozing with the members, I found out that they are totally cool and professional. They love their fans and love performing for them.

Can't wait to see them higher on the bill next time, Glenn (hint, hint ;) )

PS - waiting to see what Brainstorm brings. I like their stuff; have their latest; and want to see them perform. *thumbs up*

Wait until you guys see Brainstorm tonight. They are going to kill you. I saw them at BWBK 6 Pack Weekend II in June and they were just amazing. Andy can't believe how much the Americans were into him and I am sure the reception at ProgPower is going to be even better. If you guys raise enough hell tonight I know they will be back to tour.

I'm hopping on the bandwagon. Tad Morose just brought the house down. Urban Breed had the same energy and attitude as Tobias did two years ago. In addition to dead on vocals, Breed was having fun, playing with the audience and his bandmates. They were by far the best "undercard" of night one.

Night 2 in two hours.

Brainstorm were great! Andy was floored at the crowd response. They were the first band I'd seen all weekend who got a band 'chant'*. I think it really touched Andy. He was practically speechless for a moment.

Yes, bring Brainstorm AND Tad Morose back - with longer sets!!! :kickass:

*mind you, I didn't see Kamelot, Dreamscape, or Adagio; and if they got chants, I missed it.

Given that I had seen Brainstorm before, I knew what they were capable of so they weren't a "surprise" for me personally. Mine would have to be Tad Morose...however, I think Brainstorm played a stronger set...personally.

I knew Brainstorm was gonna kick all kinds of ass... there was no doubt in my mind about that. I wasn't expecting a ton from Tad Morose... But they were incredible live... Definitely the sleeper/underdog of the year.

While Brainstorm played their asses off and slayed, they were only the 2nd best band of the weekend. Tad Morose totally SLAYED!!!!! The whole band had energy and were moving all over the stage and pumping up the crowd. Only the lead singer did this with Brainstorm. BOTH of them really exceeded my expectations

Kamelot slayed btw;)
Where were you watching them from? Before I go into this, let me note that I am a Kamelot fan and 4th legacy is one of my favorite power metal albums, but I was far from impressed with them this time around (thought they were decent at PPII). I was up front, and their mix was horrible. The sound was all different kinds of muddled, muffled, and muddy, and It sounded like Khan's mike was cutting in and out all set. This combines with the fact that I really don't like his antics as a frontman (seems far too artificial up there, with the posturing and whatnot) to leave me very nonplussed about their set this time around.

On the topic of the thread, TAD MOROSE! holy SHIT!! Savathing was every bit as good as i was hoping they would be, and Brainstorm and Wuthering Heights both nailed their sets, but the ultimate moment of the festival, despite only a passing familiarity with Tad Morose, has to be that crushing performance of "Matters of the Dark".

It's been my experience at three ProgPowers (and to a lesser extent at other venues) that the sound is worst right up front. Not only do you not get the full "mix" from all the speakers since you're inevitibly closer to some than others, but you're also going to hear more of the distortion when you're that close to the speakers. That's why this year I spent most of my time on the floor just in front of the mixing board.

Well, SAVATAGE and EDGUY were definitely the two top bands there -- it would be hard to pick a favorite.

For best underdog bands, it obviously, obviously, OBVIOUSLY came down to Tad Morose and Brainstorm. I think that overall the crowd seemed to like BRAINSTORM the best, judging by the number of times the crowd burst into "Brainstorm, Brainstorm!"

Hey Ryan,

I was by the soundboard and the sound was great were I was. The guitar and drums were pumping! In terms of the frontman, I guess its a matter of taste. I like the theatrical approach to the show. In terms of the mic problems, I cant blame the band for that. A great show second only to Weapons IMHO.
