For those who have heard it, in the song Descending by Lamb of God what effect is used in the fade in intro? Or atleast something similar to it.

My concern is that if he doesn't understand what the terms themselves refer to how is he going to apply what is told?

Maybe a little more in depth:

High Pass ... basically, anything HIGHER than your setting will "Pass" or be heard. Anything lower than your setting will be cut, the amount depending on how extreme you set the cut.

Low Pass ... the exact opposite of High Pass

not trying to sound like a dick, just saying that you should have an understanding of the basic concepts of EQ use. If you don't know even the basics, how are you going to know how to achieve a sound you are trying for?

Somewhat, just didnt know there were automated ones built in already. I just started getting into recording.

There are not automated ones built in. You have to do the automation yourself. Most (all?) plugins have a menu that allows for you to choose which parameters will be automated but its up to you to make that happen. Basically you will have to set the plugin into a "write" mode and manually perform the automation through the section you are trying to have the effect over. After you are done you go back into "read" mode. Your DAW will read the automation everytime you play through the timeline area that has that info written to it

sorry, I'm not really articulating my thoughts too well today ... but hopefully you get the idea
