Electric Eel Shock – You Bastard Remix EP
Demolition Records – DEMCDS002 – 2005
By Jason Jordan
It’s too bad that this unnecessary remix EP – You Bastard – serves as my introduction to Electric Eel Shock, since the album version of 'Bastard' seems like the kind of ‘tude-heavy rock n’ roll I can really get into from time to time. Interestingly, EES were based in Japan until they moved to the U.S. in hopes of making it in the music business. As it stands, though, this is a 12-minute record with three remixes from their previous outing Beat Me and, again, the album version of 'Bastard,' which makes it extraneous.
Timmy B remixed 'Bastard' and 'Beat Me,' but made the wise choice of not overhauling the tracks until they became unrecognizable. In other words, much of the original material shines through, as it should, similar to Miles Ashton’s remix of 'Killer Killer.'
I’m kind of at a loss to explain how/why this ended up in UM’s hands since a quick search of the database yielded no prior coverage of Electric Eel Shock, but perhaps it’s understandable because we do work with their label. If you happen to encounter Beat Me, or any another one of their albums for that matter, check it out. Definitely pass on You Bastard, though.
