The voltage isn't the only thing that's important, see. Electricity is distributed by means of an alternating current, which is to say the voltage on your outlet flips polarity a few times per second. That would be 50 times per second for UK and 60 times per second for US. When you plug some device designed for one frequency into a network of another frequency, there's a considerable chance things get fucked up and/or don't work.

It MIGHT work but I wouldn't take the chance.
