I think it was about 7 years ago that Elixir sent me a pack of their acoustic geeetar strings for free, provided I just filled out some little survey card. So I put them on and have loved them since, switching over my Fender P-bass to Elixir strings immediately and never looking back (I had previously used about 20 different brands). My Ernie Ball gets nothing but Elixir, even if I was offered like 10 sets of Ernie Ball strings just for turning in the warranty card (never bothered, whoops).

So I just broke the G-string (huhuhuhuhu huhu huhuhuh h) on the acoustic, from the first set, over 7 years and countless hours old. The rest sound good still. Damn.

Elixir does indeed make the best guitar strings. They have awesome heavy and medium guage strings. My Jackson usually has the heaviest guage of Elixir's on it because they can take a beating for months and still sound awesome.

I'm a shortsighted fuck so I think "HMM CRAPPY STRINGS 10 UNITS OF JEW MONEY, ELIXIR STRINGS THAT LAST SEVEN TIMES LONGER 30 UNITS OF JEW MONEY -- THE CRAPPY STRINGS ARE OBVIOUSLY THE MORE ECONOMICAL CHOICE!!!" and I have no plans to change that :p

I'm using D'Addario right now because they're the best CHEAP strings, although I should give Elixir a chance again, they were very cool last time I used them.

I remember this one company made gold strings, they cost like $100 a set. That was fucking ridiculous, but Elixirs cost around double that of a decent set of strings and last at least 4 times as long.

My favorite aspect is that they are so consistent. Many strings sound bright at first (which I hate), but then dull out steadily until they sound like shit. Elixirs have a nice worn in tone at the very beginning, and decline so slowly that it's only noticeable when you change 4 year old strings for a new set.
