Elle mag's 12 greatest female guitarists

Joan Jett? Uh, no.

Nancy Wilson isn't really doing anything Jimmy Page didn't do better. Overrated to me.

Jennifer Batten may be the best one on this list. She's extremely shredding but incredibly versatile, as she can play all that funky Michael Jackson stuff. She is definitely one of the guitarists that made Ibanez what it is today. I wonder who she'll play with now.

Isn't The Breeders/Pixies guitarist named Kim Deal, not Kelley? I always thought it was. I didn't know she did much besides distortion rhythms and simple melody lines.

It's sad, but I can't think of one shredding female guitarist I've seen live from a non-tribute band.

Joan Jett and Nancy Wilson are more like the courtesy listings huh. Where I think they are extremely influential female guitarists, I don't agree they are among the greatest guitarists. Jennifer Batten, on the other hand, is exceptional!! She was recently doing one of those living room tour things. :headbang:

Yeah Jennifer Batten I first discovered in 1987. It was about the time I bought an Ibanez Roadstar II, my first electric guitar. I think I bought it with my Bar Mitzvah money or something. I must have been 7th grade. Hilarious! I was playing only acoustic back then. I had this guitar teacher back then who convinced me that guitar was the right one for me. I didn't listen to anyone then that played one, but I just followed my teachers advice. When I found out Batten played one, I was like, "Oh cool, she's on my team!"

Funny how now I rarely play anything but a Strat. Still have that same Ibanez in the guitar stand right next to my Strat though. Back then, this guitar had this insane neck. Something very unique about it. Especially down at the higher frets below the 12th. Still never played anything that glides like it. I never picked up an Ibanez I really liked after the 80s.

Jennifer Batten- Being able to shred like Van Halen, but play funky discoey stuff, and R&B, is just great! I hope she ends up in a very creative project.

Have you heard some of her solo releases she did with Glenn Sobel on drums?o_O It's crazy stuff! :headbang: She also did a guest solo on a friend's recent CD, Carina Alfie (I did some drum tracks on that too! wheeee!). Carina is a shredder too along the Steve Vai vein.

Actually I never heard her solos stuff. I'll check it out. How are those Carina Alfie tracks you played on?

Great drumming last night Linda! Solid as hell! Am I right, your doing a bit more now with this new line up?
